Other than a lathe what is the best thing to use when trimming and shaping a cue tip?.

IMO, this is the best shaper on the market:

It's not unique in design, but is a great size/shape. And funtionally it is much better than other shapers of the same type.

As for trimming a mushroom, try the porper cut rite trimmer:

I've carried both of these in my case for years. Each works well for its intended task.

Wow.. I totally had the wrong response to this thread. :o
Looks like my 'inner voice, inner voice!' New Year's resolution is gonna be tough to follow!

Oh, as far as trimming goes.. I use an exacto knife. Sand and burnish to a polished finish.
 
I like my Porper Little Shaver for trimming. For shaping the tip I use a tool like the Trogden tool and it works great. When you buy the Pocket Lathe (I think it was called) you get nickle and dime shaped tools shaping tools.
