Trouble adjusting to Simonis 860

Usually when playing on a different table it takes a game or two to get adjusted to the cloth and to the balls (how dirty). Then I usually can adjust the swerve, throw, and draw. But every time I play on Simonis 860 I can not adjust. I use alot of english and throw in my game, and have always been able to adjust. I've been playing for over 25 years and consider myself a decent player. I've bought a commercial table with 860 on it to try to correct this. So far this has not helped. I can get adjusted to the speed, and my banks are not affected. But my game drops down several levels on these tables from missing shots. Could it be something that I am not thinking of? Or is it something I'm gonna have to get used to?

i have a 9ft gold crown 2 shimed in my private room at my pool room, and i shoot on it a little , i dont use as much english, or throw as the speed of the cloth will help me on position, as long as i get the table speed down, try to roll a lot of your shots, rather than a hard stroke and see if that helps,with fast cloth english and throw just increses in speen. Most players when making the move from carpet D ) to Simonis type cloths have to eventually find center ball to progress further in the game.

I worked for the better part of a year on using center ball, folow and draw as much as I can, and it has paid off with good play.

I've played in a number of countries, and one thing that seems common when I am complimented on how well I play by a good foreign player is that they note that I use mostly center ball.

I used to think that if Efren can spin the ball all over the table, then I can learn to do it too. My play was inconsistent. When I found center ball, my mped two balls.

You have to master center ball before you can reliably move to the edges of the cue ball. Especially on Simonis.

My guess is you are hitting "down" on the cueball causing swerve. In other words, your cueball shots with english are curving more than usual before contact with the object ball. Level out your cue a little, stick to within a tip of center, use a positive stroke to get the english, and stroke smoothly right on through the ball (don't poke down on it). You can get a lot of action on simonis without going to extremes.

I tend to agree with the other posters in that you should pay particular attention to your fundamentals for a while. I have noticed however that on thick nappy cloth I tend to overcut balls since the cueball will plane up on top of the nap on medium to firm shots.

If you want to make sure you can hit firmly where you're aiming, try out this Bert Kinister shot. This is not a stop shot. Its a firm centerball hit. You select the proper speed that will allow the cueball to roll forward after contact to replace the one ball. Its much more difficult than it looks.

What type of cloth did you used to play on?? Really there's not much adjustment to be made from different cloths...even Granito to 760....

I have played on bar tables with nappy cloth all my life up until 3 years ago. Then I started playing on 9 ft. medalists with some other grade of Simonis ( From what I was told). I play well on these tables. I can beat the ghost pretty consistently on these tables. I can rarely beat the ghost on these other tables with 860. The only shots I have problems with is cut shots with english. This is my specialty on the other tables. I miss these shots terribly on 860. And I keep a level cue when possible. I am getting a little better, but it is very aggravating to drop down so many levels.
