Hey everyone. I have an older Fanelli and unfortunately noticed tonight that the ivory joint is cracked. I want to get it repaired, but I have no clue who does repairs like this or who will do an amazing job. Looking for some recommendations. Thanks everyone.

Personally I would post this in the ask the cue maker section.

Joe Barringer out of Florida sales ivory and he is a cue maker.
Ryan or AKA rat with Meullers pool and darts ( might ) do it .
Dennis Searing might do it but there is a waiting list..........
Bobby Hunter.
You will find some cue makers are unwilling to deal with ivory because of the new laws .
I am not up on what laws have been passed, NY I think have passed some new laws on ivory.

I think I would some what educate yourself on the new ivory laws before you shipped your cue off.

Port authority/ customs is the people who know what the laws are.
They are easy to get in contact with.
they made me nervous when I called them,, they asked way to many questions.
So you might consider using a pay phone to call them.,

Scott Sherbine at Proficient Billiards. Great work. Nice guy. Well respected on these forums. Might be at SBE this month. Located near Lancaster, PA, you might drive it over if necessary.

+1 for Scott Sherbine at Proficient.

Another great choice would be Ryan of RAT cues. He can be contacted through Mueller.

Joe Barringer was mentioned above. He would be near or at the bottom of my recommendation list.

What ever you do make sure if the cue has Butterflys you have someone who knows how to strip a finish without taking the butterflys down any. Ask the repair person if he's worked on butterfly cues before and measure everything befor you send it off... If it were mine I'd call Dave Barrenbrunge, Mike Webb, or Eric Crisp.. There are others too.... It's a Finelli. Don't skimp!

+2 for Scot Sherbine and/or Ryan at Mueller's. Both guys do fantastic cue work, have fair prices, have great reputations, and stand behind their work. Personally I wouldn't worry about the "ivory law" thing. You're not selling the cue, nor are you shipping it out of the country. :D

No kidding on the new Ivory laws...makes me glad none of my cues have Ivory. Oregon just passed one that forbids the sale of Ivory...even Mastedon Ivory is on the list. WTF?? They've been extinct for how many thousands of years? How many elephants can be saved by banning that Ivory?

Thanks for the info everyone. Sounds like Scott at proficient seems the way to go. It's not a butterfly cue that has the issue thankfully, but I do have one on the way to me that I purchased from Grant. Once I get that in hand I'll give Scott a call to see about getting it fixed.

I will have to inquire about the new Ivory laws, because I heard Christie made some new strict laws in NJ about it. Figure since there really isn't any sale/purchase involved and the only ivory is the joint itself, hoping it wouldn't be a huge issue.

pay phone

I haven't seen one of those in years. :p

Long story and needed to know learn the ivory law quickly I call port authorities in SF California .''

I was asking about bringing in a cue that had ivory in it and it was a American made cue in china.

Right away I wished I would of worded my questions differently and the custom agent was really grilling me with questions .

If I ever had to call customs up on a question about ivory I would be doing it from something different then my personal cell phone...............................

IMHO Proficient Billiards are as good as any big name maker for repairs and refinishes. In fact, because they do so many, I would say they were better than most. Also, they're cheap!

I fall into the list of people that recommend Scot ot Proficient Billiards. He refinished my TAD a few years ago and I couldn't have been happier. His service was quick and the work that he did was excellent. I use the cue as an 'everyday player' and it still looks like the day I got it back from him. Take a look at his workmanship: #http://proficientbilliards.com/cues/tad/fancy/index.htm

Does anyone know if Proficient will be at the expo? It would give me a legitimate reason to have to go then. I'd rather hand the cue off than worry about shipping with all these new Ivory laws.

Here is a list of vendors scheduled to be at SBE. The event is still two weeks away, so SBE may be adding more. There will be many cuemakers and cue repair shops present.

Don't think Scott is a participant. He may be there to visit some cue vendors. Call him at Proficient. Perhaps he can save you one way shipping.

I think you should contact Scott and see when he will be there. Im sure he will attend the show and maybe you could meet him there. You will not be disappointed. Good Luck

Joe Blackburn and Steve Lomax will be at the expo. You can't get any better, they're in booth 602. Also, if you don't go, look up John Bender who's in north Jersey. He's a great cue maker who's fantastic to deal with.
