Just as the title says, My very dear friend is in financial ruins. Like myself he works hand to mouth and has had job after job cancel or decide to postpone their work for a while. At this point he is two months behind on rent and utilities and will soon be homeless. I just left his apartment with a very heavy heart. I plan to help him get some food today, but just me on my own I can't really do a lot. I know things will eventually pick back up but it will be way to late by then. If by any chance anybody can donate a few bucks even if it just helps him have enough to eat for a while it would mean the world to me find some help for his situation. I guarantee %100. of any funds raised will go directly to him!

Thank you to anyone that is willing,
Jay

I would think a quick phone call to the nearest big-city Marine recruiting office would be answered by a pretty savvy Marine sgt. who'd know of several Marine-specialized adequate emergency funding sources to help your buddy for a few months. This would be much more direct than -- for instance -- contacting a bureaucratic regional Veterans Admin. person.

Give it a try quickly.

I will give it a try on Monday. Thank you for the suggestion.

where do you live where a marine cant go out and find someone to give him some kind of work to do, unless he is physically unable to work. then he needs to go get financial assistance from an agency in his area.

In the Denver area, (He is a tile setter by the way) a one man small business and a helper on occasion in business for twenty years noe i think. Physically kind of worn out, shoulders and elbows as you can imagine if you have done tile and grouting before. But he gets up and goes to work.

His troubles started when he worked on a huge project last summer, it was an out door UN- covered area, as soon as the tile was laid we got torrential down pours for weeks. In spite of buying giant tarps and every effort on god's green earth it developed problems.Being a stand up man and a Marine he kept continuing to deal with each situation as they presented themselves. It just became a nightmare that cost him about three thousand dollars instead of being profitable. He stuck it out but it cost him every thing he had to make it right. It can be hard on a very small business when something goes wrong that you just don't see coming.

He has been taking daily hits with problems caused by other contractors as well such as a bathroom floor scheduled for this last Thursday until he pointed out that her plumber installed the wrong custom order soaker bath tub and it is now a three week delay to order in the new one (she did order the right one but got the wrong one delivered and installed)
He was supposed to have done a large glass back splash just before that...But now she has to re-think what material she wants to use and get it ordered!!! this has been the way things have been going like never before in 20 years in business.
All he really needs is a band aid until things can proceed with work that should have been done and paid for already.
It's hard enough to keep your head above water in a small business and just about impossible to play catch-up when the bills never stop coming.

I am trying to help bridge this gap, stay in business. and not have to loose his home without any resources. This has been a real tough few months. Not to mention almost nobody wants to be doing construction projects during the holiday's.

Thank you,
Jay

Wish he was here, I'd hire him for a floor job. Will send a little gapper anyway.

I work for a large flooring company in Denver that does mainly new home construction
We are always looking for tile installers.
If he has a truck, tools and insurance he can work as a subcontractor and do the small or big jobs and work as much or as little as he can.
Send me a PM and I will send contact info if he is interested.

there you go. you just found work for him so now it is in his ball park.
there is always work out there for those with initiative. while he is waiting on his other jobs to come in he can do things not entirely suited to what he wants. that is life.

i am being critical but i see this all the time.

the good part about my company is that if his paper work is all in order and we give him a job to do he has instant credit with us for supplies that will be deducted from his first check.
Just needs gas money.
I haven't received a PM regarding this so I guess he made other arrangements.
I offer the opportunity to work not a hand out.

while i agree with some what with your post there are times when things are beyond your control and it spirals downward from there.

while i don't like putting my personal life on the web for the world to see i guess its ok since none of ya'll know me. my story is a perfect example of things that can happen beyond your control.

i had only been in biz for myself as a small time utility subcontractor for a few years before the housing boom went bust several years ago. i started out with 1 truck and 1 machine and 1 helper. biz was doing so good i expanded to 3 truck and 3 machines and 5 helpers. was'nt getting rich but lived comfortably . bought a new house and managed to sock away a few dollars at the same time.

when the housing boom went bust my work started dying off and i started down sizing to where i was back to 1 truck...1 machine and 1 helper again.

during the next year i took any and every job i could find trying to stay afloat. iwent from working 6-7 days a week down to 1 or 2 days a week. on the days i was not working i was out looking for jobs.

needless to say over that year i had to continuaslly dip in to the money i had accumulated just to stay afloat. also i started to get behind on my payments on everything i had.

also during these trying times it affected my family and i wound up losing my wife and son.

i was contacted by a contractor who had heard of my reputation of doing quality work that wanted to hire me.he said he had plenty of work for me. problem was it was in alabama.

with my last 1,000.00 i had to my name i moved my equipment to alabama....borrowed a frinds 12' camper for me and my helper to stay in and went to alabama .

it took me 2 weeks to complete the 1st job. oh yea....my rear end went out on my machine the last day of the job. 8,000.00 to repair it. did not have the money to get it fixed and i was behind on my payments on my last repair job so i could not get it fixed on credit. the contractor tells me he will rent me a machine and take the payments out of what he owes me. sounded like a good deal.

so here i am waiting 30 days for payment on the 1st job i completed. i go home that weekend and find a foreclosure notice on my house from the bank.damn just when things are starting to look up this happens.

i go back to alabama and finish another job that week, gotta wait 30 days on that payment. go home again that weekend.

go back to alabama the next monday and find that the office/shop blew up sunday night. the mechanic had used the shop to work on something of his and it turns out one of the torches had a leak and blew the place up killing him.

they shut the place down for the whole week while looking for another building to house their office and shop. it also destroyed all the billing records.

i dont need to bore you with any more of this long ass story....needless to say i lost my house and am no longer in biz for myself.

Never heard a word or a thanks, but no thanks. whatever.
I withdraw my offer of help.
It's only been 19 days since your offer of EMPLOYMENT.

That's why my charity is limited to people that I personally know, In need help.

Kudos for trying.

yeah, never got any word if the gapper I sent helped or was even received.

Pretty sure I am going to confine my charity to people I actually know from here on out.
