Tulsa, OK...any good poolrooms?

I've been interviewing with a company in Tulsa. It's all been over the phone, and I have no idea what life is like there. Anyone live there or been through that could help me out?

What's the pool scene like? Night life? Is it all old and ugly people or is it pretty cool? Thanks in advance for the info!!
 
Tulsa Billiard Palace, and Magoo's. Tulsa IS pool. Only advice I can give you is DONT bet high.

I heard the Billiard Palace is closing because of the smoking and liquor laws. I think Matlock was teelling me that.
 
Magoo's is a great pool room, first class-nice people. Stopped in a few years back. Watch out, there are some players in this town.

The fate of the palace is still up in the air. It might be getting moved. Tulsa is great pool town and atmosphere. And you can bet anything you want. Everything from $2 a game one-pocket to big time bags of sand. Enjoy it.....I did for 2 years and hopefully will go back someday.
 
That's where

Gabe jumped up about 3 notches after moving there from Wichita. Lots of good players there, action. If Tulsa players get bored, they drive an hour over to Oklahoma City, and hit Mikey's, a 24/7 place that gets a lot of action.

Just tell me when you come to town and i can introduce you to the pool community of both the Palace and Magoo's.
Magoos has a young and attractive crowd most nights. The waitresses are definitely pretty and cool.
The Palace is not planning to close.
Equipment at both Magoos and the Palace is the best in that part of the country. Thats why the IPT chose Tulsa for its qualifiers. Some say they are both in the top 10 of pool halls in the country.

I was there for about a month about 6 years ago on a facility relocation a friend directed me to the Palace and I had a good time there made some friends and some money! It was a nice place to play :)
 
The palace is unique spot in that part of the US, the one item that pops out is the snooker table there, action 24/7 + your in such a great location for all the events from TX to Olathe, its the hub area for pool in the Midwest. Another point, Jim McDermott the owner of Magoo's and the Palace is such a giving person to the sport and his employees exemplify the type of place Jim and Laura have. The people in this part of the country are very nice and there is allot of fishing and boating too.

Just to clear some things up for everyone... the Palace is NOT closing!!

There is a world of rumors that have been twisted so far out of whack, they relay almost no truth. Simple facts are that the palace MIGHT move up the street 3 miles in FEBRUARY when the lease is up. That is the ONLY thing going on. There has been absolutely NO MENTION of closing in any way. I swear some people take an inch and go to the moon. lol. Anyway... very nice 24 hour pool room with top notch equipment. 12 Gold Crown IV's with centennial balls and Simonis, 18 Diamond Bar Tables, 2 Diamond 9 footers, as well as old english snooker and 3-cushion tables. Dominoes, Gin and Chess players all day and night. And, yes, the action is easy to find on all levels. You can see pics below.

I have lived in and around Tulsa for 10+ years. Pool is NOT lacking here. lol. My cue shop is/was in the Palace and I do most of the cue repair for players there and at Magoo's. There are leagues of all types (APA, BCA, TAP) and all levels. Plenty of tournaments too. We have weekly added money tournaments and several big events/tour stops per year. Magoo's currently hosts IPT qualifiers every time the IPT has them.

As far as the city, there are plenty of clubs, places to eat, shopping, etc. TONS of young people. Several Indian casinos that have poker rooms, including the nicest in the midwest (Cherokee Casino). You won't get bored in this town.

Just an observation, but the GC in the foreground of your photo is not a IV (probably a III). The only reason I point it out is that I LOVE the GCIV's (and have a little bit of dislike for the III's in terms of the raised, cruddy, rubber pocket liner - fixed on the IV).

yeah... those pics are 3 years old. The tables have been replaced by IVs last year.

Tulsa is a great Pool Town, there are lots of places to play & lots of levels of competition.

I am moving to Tulsa myself, just as soon as my home sells. I have already put down a deposit on a home.

The match play, the league play, the night life, the available equipment & the Pool Players are enough for anyone that's looking to have some fun, just about any day of the week.
 
I was in Tulsa 20+ years ago ......off and on. I played at the old Billiard Palace Downton. Never have been to the new one or Magoos, but hear their great places to play. There has always been ALL levels of action and competition there. It's the crossroads for all the "roadies"!!! You can match up any way you like and get played! And if Jim McDermit is still there, he's a Class Act. I'm in Florida now, but hope to get back that way sometime soon.
