Turn the River

One word: Awful!

Spare yourself the disappointment. There was a thread last month that echoed my sentiments.

Much better than the crap spewed by Mars Callahan and Freddie Prinze Jr, Poolhall Junkies and Shooting Gallery.

Tony Robles makes a cameo.

I never heard of it, but was just watching the Independent Spirit Awards on IFC and it was nominated for something. Looks like a pretty friggin good movie, with some serious pool action!

Theres very little pool in it. Pool is mostly a backdrop for Famke and her son (the real story). But it did feature one pocket and Famek jansenn which can never be a bad thing.

I give this movie a thumbs down-ish.... If you like watching movies where pool players make cameos, and don't care about a story line that grabs you, you'll like it. I have this movie for the sole purpose of owning as many pool movies as I can....Kisses and Caroms would be a better investment (and that's sad).

I strongly disagree. When I watch a pool movie...I want to see pool.

The movie was pretty bad, and the pool in it was the same as in every other movie. Also, I dont know what evryone is thinking, but Famke Jansenn isnt that great, I see better looking women at the supermarket. Poolhall Junkies was better

I fully agree.

A) Jansenn is not hot...at all.
B) Pool Hall Junkies was bad...but at least it was amusingly bad. Turn The River just stinks on all levels.

Perhaps its time to make a sticky on available pool movies out there. I'll start.

The Hustler
Color of Money
Poolhall Junkies
Stickmen
Baltimore Bullet
The Baron and the Kid
Shooting Gallery
Turn the River

It is a relentless chick-flick, with some pool in it,

Dale

I was disappointed in the movie. After TCOM, The Hustler, and Baltimore Bullet, the others just don't measure up.

Wait a minute you see Sizzling hot Woman that were Bond chicks at the Super market?? I either want to know what you are smoking or what super market you shop at...

Like to know where you shop...... from Star Trek to X-men to Bond, yeah she's kinda homely looking, at 43.....

Thats a good pic of her. Ive only seen her in a few things and shes a good looking woman, but nothing that would make me look twice. In the movie she looked horrible, obviously for the part though. To answer the question, I shop at Bruno's Fine Foods or Longos and its always packed with hot girls.

I actually got to meet Femke during an audition for this movie and on a separate occasion, she stopped by my office. I have to say, anyone who doesn't think she's gorgeous doesn't know what they're talking about.

Regarding the movie, this was not a major release. If you're closer to the film industry, you'd know that there are plenty of movies done simply for the sake of exercise. There was very little budget a lot of creative flexibility. It provided a different type of role that Femke is normally cast for and it gave an opportunity to a director to show what he's capable of. By no means was this meant to be the next Hustler or COM or even Pool Hall Junkies.

Personally, I thought John Juback (aka J.J.) was awesome. I thought his acting was credible AND I thought he did a superb job coaching Femke (she couldn't even hold a cue when I met her). Unfortunately, I thought the editting of Tony Robles (the same character I almost played) was done poorly and was very obvious. For any pool enthusiast, it was an extreme let-down.

In the end, this is the type of thing that pool needs. Why? The powers that be need to be constantly reminded that pool makes an excellent story. People ARE interested in these types of movies. If they continue to pop-up in the independent films, it will inevitable reappear in major releases.

I thought it would be worth renting, cause I dig Famke Janssen, but it was not :frown: . I fell asleep watching it.

Much to my surprise, the Mrs. liked it.
