Was just wondering what size in general pool cue blanks need to be if I buy some wood for use later in a cue. I think I read 1.5" x 1.5" x 18"?

How much and size is needed for forearm and butt?

How much and size is needed for wood handle?

Points?

Thinking of buying some wood and I need some advice on sizes

Thanks!!

Wood size

1 1/2" squares x 18" or 1 3/8" dowels x 18" and for the forearm 13" that gives you enough wood to be able to end at butt size of 29" or 30". Point stock can be done with 3/4 squares 9" to 10".
Best advice is to check the cue suppliers websites.

Let's try a different approach.
29 inch butt
Forearm......handle.....butt sleeve
......12."..........12.5"...............4.5"
Butt sleeve is usually part of the handle.
Joining the handle to the Forearm has a tenon in the equation that goes inside. Some do into the Forearm. Some do into the handle. You decide which method you want to do. So with that in mind.
Example
Forearms...14 inches but I buy 18 inches as a rule.
Handles...18 to 20 inches
The butt sleeve is usually done with a matching peice from the Forearm wood if it's a plain jane or a matching peice from the point stock. Point stock 12 inches. I get the points from the 1 1/2 squares. If I buy a wood just for points. I like 1 inch squares because they will move sitting on the shelf. For Forearms that will have points in them. 1 1/4 stock is fine.
Hope this helps.

Just buy one 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 by 30 inches of an insane piece of wood and make a one piece butt. Just saying

Thanks. Think I get it. I am not a cuemaker, just have access to some exotic wood I might buy and send to a cuemaker.

If the forearm is going to be cored, 16" would be plenty for a forearm and buttsleeve .
If the handle will be cored, 13" long would be enough.

That would be a waste of an insane wood if you could make two cues off that .
Specially if it's going to get wrapped anyway.
