is there any change of an APB boycott of this event due to seeding issues?

I asked Shawn Putnam a week or so ago about the ABP members attending the Joss/Turning Stone tourney, since the ABP has a thing about seeding. Here is Shawn's reply to my inquiry: Shawn's Reply on 7/10/2011.

His reply to me was that they were, indeed, going to compete in the Joss/Turning Stone tournament this year even though Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour events are *not* seeded. ;)

I give Mike Zuglan a lot of credit for keeping the Joss Tour alive and well for, what, 15, 16, or 17 years now? I think it may actually be the longest running regional tour in existence, so Zuglan must be doing something right.

It's his tour, and Mike Zuglan has every right to have rules he deems best. He's the one that does all the work to keep pool alive and well for pool players of all caliber.

Of course, the ABP members are going to compete at the $25,000-added tournament, where everybody gets paid in CASH MONEY right on the spot.

Last year when I spoke to Mike about the TS the whole seeding issue came up and guess what.... No one gets special treatment. About the money situation??? He flat out said.. "Every player gets paid their money on the spot!! No checks or IOU's.... CASH MONEY!!!"

Mike is a splended professional man and I wish I could attend more of his tour events. Im just lucky that the TS is close to my hometown so when I go home for the holidays I get to play. Don't like my odds but nothing feels better than locking horns with the best in the world

Mike Zuglan and the Turning Stone Classic has never had any issue with paying the winners before they leave the casino. On Saturday and Sunday of the tournament, Mike announces on the overhead speaker system that the players who just got eliminated to see him at the directors booth so that he can pay them. Johnny Archer has won the event 6 times, he has been on the advertising poster for the last few years.

As for the seeding issue, this was brought up before sometime in 2010 shortly after the formation of the ABP, and there was paranoia about TS no longer being a BCA points event. The problem with seeding is that the Joss Tour is also a regional Tour (NorthEast). Since many of the ABP listed Pros only show up to the Turning Stone Event, if they were to be seeded based on the regional tour points system, they might be ranked lower than tour member players who play in more of the stops and thus would then be seeded higher. Because of that, it could be possible that two Pros would face each other in the first round, because they lacked enough points in the regional tour. Maybe this would encourage more of them to play in the local stops more often. But seeding the pros would also hinder the local players from playing on his tour.

As for the brackets, I heard someone ask him about how its drawn, and heard that the names are randomly drawn from a hat, not by him, but someone from BCA, that way hes not involved in case someone has a problem with it.

The ABP should not have an issue with it, a majority of the winners are on the ABP supported list, and they were all paid on the spot.

yeah i get all that. i love TS and have been to a boatload of them. i know the players get paid right away. my only concern was that since seeding seems to be a plank of the ABP's platform that there might be an issue. i glad to hear that doesnt seem to be the case. on the other hand i am not sure how the ABP can pick and choose which planks they will insist on at which tourneys. lowers their credibility a little.

anyway the date change threw me a curve and now i am jumping through hoops of fire to rearrange things to get there in September. i am looking forward to another great Turning Stone Classic!

I am considering coming out to the US i September, starting in NY, and this looks to be a good place to start. I am not of the requisite level to play but would definitely look to be playing in lower level tournies across the country. Is this a good introduction to the scene that side?

Paul,

Is Ed doing the event? If so, does he have a couple of small Pro/Am's on the truck? Camelot might be interested in adding another table or two to their new business. Hope to get them up Friday or Saturday. Beautiful new room. The four tables from the pro arena at SBE are in constant use.

Incidentally, the orange crush is still out there :p!

Press Release: Joss Northeast Tour Set To Begin 15th Season

I am proud to announce the complete schedule for our Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour's 2011-2012 season. This will be the tour's 15th continuous season in operation. During that time we have produced over 300 events including 16, soon to be 17, of the very popular Turning Stone Classic events. Other previous major events on the tour were 2, $25,000 added season finales in Portland Maine and 2 $15,000 added finales in Chelmsford & New Bedford Ma. There were also hundreds of great events in some of the Northeast's (and beyond) finest billiard parlors. These are the backbone of our tour and the sport itself. Without these rooms generosity and support our sport would be non existent to say the least. They deserve our gratitude and thanks for allowing us the use of their fine rooms.

This coming season will consist of 15 regular season events and the $25,000 Added Turning Stone Classic XVIII (December 15-18, 2011). This season we welcome 3 new rooms to the tour. These new rooms include, Premium Billiards in Syracuse NY (stop # 1), Camelot Billiards in Rochester NY (stop # 4) and Fast Eddie's Billiards Cafe in New Milford Ct (stop # 8). The new season will also include 3 events at Snookers in Providence RI. Two events at Trick Shot Billiards And Sports Pub in Clifton Park (near Albany) NY. Two events at Raxx Pool Room & Grill in W. Hempstead NY. Single event rooms include TJ's Classic Billiards (Waterville Me), Hippos' House Of Billiards (Utica NY), Diamond Eight Billiards (Latham, near Albany NY), Salt City Billiards (Syracuse NY) & the Golden Cue Billiards (Albany NY). With the exception of our Turning Stone Classic XVIII and The 23rd Ocean State 9-Ball Championship at Snookers, all of our events will include an open Saturday and Sunday main event plus a $500 added Sunday only consolation event for non pro level players eliminated from the main event. For all info regarding any of our events including entry fees, added monies, formats, host locations, tour membership, results, etc., please visit us at www.joss9balltour.com or contact Mike Zuglan at mzjosstour@aol.com or call 518-356-7163.

This season we welcome a new sponsor to the tour. Dan Heidrich of Heidrich Custom Cues has joined our family of most generous sponsors. Not only is Dan fast becoming a great cue maker, he is also a great player and past winner on our tour. Below you will find a complete list, with contact info, of our new season sponsors. All of their donated products go to the host rooms to help offset their added money obligations. I urge you to support and recommend these generous companies whenever you can. A very special thanks goes out to Dan Janes of Joss Cues for all he has done since the beginning. FYI, Dan has donated one, sometimes two, $1,000 range custom, engraved cues to each and every stop since the beginning of the tour. That is over 300 cues! You do the math. Thanks again to Dan and all of our sponsors from all of us.

Just a reminder that the current season is not quite over yet. We still have our 25,000 Added Turning Stone Classic XVII 9-Ball Open, September 8-11, 2011. This event will once again feature 128 of some of the finest players in the game. It will be held in one of the best venues (The Event Center at Turning Stone) you will ever find, and spectator admission will once again be FREE!

I will see you all soon, and please remember to spread the word to frequent your local billiard rooms and utilize the great companies who continue to help keep our great sport alive!
