Turning Stone Classic XXXVI

Here's what Sky needs to navigate to complete an epic comeback...

Screw Shaw. Once he started his racking shark moves BS in the match prior I was done with the stream. He is a piece of trash that should be run out of pool and no you won't change my mind.

Sky made a tough shot on the 4 ball where the new spot on the table altered the roll of the cue and it left him shooting over the 9-ball. Great shot, but he did what so many of us do and missed on the next shot. After that miss it was Shaw’s game.
Really fun match to watch and the most exciting finish I’ve seen here.

That was a tough roll for Sky. If the spot hadn’t altered the path, he wouldn’t have been tree topped. And honestly clean cueing would have let him play easier shape for the ball he missed.

It was interesting seeing him setup the shot he missed and rattle it again. And then Jayson set it up and show him how it goes in more easily rolling it in with top rather than spearing it to stun over.

Sky's miss reminded me of a miss by Shaw in the hot seat match of the 2016 U. S. Open. He was trailing Chang Jung-Lin by 10 to 4, came back to tie it hill-hill at 10-10.....and then missed this relatively easy 3 ball. Chang then ran out to close the set, and then in the losers' bracket final, Shaw went up 6-0 on Shane and wound up losing by 11-9. But prior to the hot seat match, Shaw came back from 10-4 down to beat Ko-Pin Yi. Three straight matches, three straight incredible comebacks, even if one of them came up a game short.

I don’t have such an extreme opinion. But I have to say he does seem to benefit from this opponent racks format. Watched his first game against Fedor and it def looked like Fedor racked them well for him but not the other way round.

I don't understand how people are accusing Shaw of rack manipulation. Sky literally broke and ran 5 racks on him to tie up the match. At no point did he try to slug Sky. All I've seen from Shaw is great sportsmanship and a love of the game and competition.

I don't see the evidence even for a personal suspicion, and certainly not for public slander. Just my opinion.

I didn’t watch much of the event but it was clear Shaw was giving Sky honest good racks. My take on Shaw’s character is that integrity matters, especially with this. There’s no doubt in my mind he’d carefully and deliberately give his opponents racks to the standard he’d give himself.
