Turning Stone Classic XXXVI

I was there for all matches on Sunday. Seems like most re-racks were done in matches where Jayson was involved and it was Jayson who was asking for most re-racks. Maybe he is indeed Eagel eyed and can see micro spaces, but there were some situations at crucial moments that Jayson was asked to re-rack so I am not sure how he missed those space. I believe the mechanical rack was a disaster. Why not use a template and make the break rules more difficult like Matchroom is doing?

Had Skyler, who came to the table down 12-6 and came within a whisker of running the match out, completed the winning six pack, the match would have gone down as one of the greatest finals ever.

Wu ran his famous package to compete his win at the World 9-ball championships in 2005 and I recall a match in which JL Chang ran the last six racks against Dennis Orcullo to come from behind during the BCAPL pro event in about 2014.

All of that said, the Turning Stone final still stands among the great finals. The two finalists, who have combined to win four of the last five Mosconi MVP awards, have a lot of respect for each other, and both displayed great sportsmanship in this exceptional match.

Pool as it should be for sure!

I think it should be mandatory that they slug rack each other. Make it interesting
Why not just have random members of the audience break for them? That would be interesting.

Shaw may have won, and fair play to him, but Sky looked the better bet this week. Sky has looked more confident and more focused since he left Meucci for Cuetec it appears. I'm looking for Sky to have his strongest year in a long time.

Jayson is a great player. However, based upon his behavior at the Mosconi he is not a good person!
I have said before and I will say it again, for those that truly know him, he is the most down to earth person you will meet. He knows how to play a role when needed and does it well. Outside of that he will give you the shirt off his back, is a great husband and father, and doesn't take himself too seriously.

Jason is that you? ;)

He used to rub me the wrong way too, but not anymore. I really think if Skylar had finished off that match, Jason would have seriously congratulated him. If the people that really know him, speak highly of him -- that says a lot about the guy.

It was nice meeting you at Turning Stone.

you'd be wrong on that.
Jayson seems to be a great individual. However, I think he was putting unnecessary pressure on his opponents to get a perfect rack with a wooden rack. Oi, Gorst, Sossei and Syklar seemed frustrated at times having to re-rack over and over. Oi seemed like his back was hurting couple times with the amount of re-rack he had to do 😀 Syklar at one point walked away and said I "think" this is a good rack ... fortunately, Jayson accepted it 😀
With luck, supernatural skills and "asking for re-racks, Turning Stone might be the Jayson event 😀

Darn right. Jayson is a very fierce, intense competitor who wears those qualities on his sleeve in the arena of battle. In this respect, he's a lot like Filler. Those who mistake this for a show of disrespect toward their opponents need to reconsider. Jayson and Josh are both a delight outside of the arena. Pool needs more Jayson Shaw and Josh Filler types.

100%! Their personalities are exactly what our sport needs. They are young, marketable, and successful and have all the ingredients to take pool to the next level.

oi has suffered from a bad back in the past. it held him back for years. but better now i think.

turning stone definitely seems to suit jayson, his total winnings in this event should be pushing 100k. with few travel expenses too.

Agreed. Mosconi Cup is a different animal. The crowd and the interaction with the players is what its about. Its pool meets WWE. Jayson is just like heel (bad guy) Brett Hart from the 90's. He was a hero in Canada but a vilian in the US. Jayson "plays the heel" while in the US at mosconi cup and plays the hero in England. Its no different then skylar trying to hush the crowd in England or taking his extension on a straight in 9 ball to hype the crowd up in the US. Once people understand that Mosconi Cup is part show and to not judge people on that, then the better they will be. I have met Jayson a couple times and couldn't have been a nicer guy.
