They need to start using a template rack- seeing guys rack for 2 minutes straight is very off putting

It’s the reason why a friend of mine didn’t go this year. The racking situation is silly and could be fixed
I wonder what Zuglan’s reasons are for not using the template? I know it presents it’s own issues for the players that have figured it out, but if they rack the 9 on the spot, it’s not automatic to make the wing balls but may be more likely to make the 1 ball in the side pocket? It still seems the advantages of using a template would outweigh the disadvantages - mainly speeding up the time racking / length of the matches.

I asked him once and he said that he has no problem using the template, but they keep disappearing on him. Don't think that's a good enough reason for a large tournament that is prone to racking problems, but Mike is Mike. I would be surprised if he starts using templates.

This happened a few years back. Story goes he had to leave because he had nowhere to deposit his cash winnings.
Looks like he last played TS in 2020, so it was likely 2021 when he cut out early.
That was the year I went. August/September 2022. I think he was already in the losers bracket, and the number mentioned at the time was about $40k. Here's the thread:

In the thread, Shane confirmed (on FB?) that the cash and imminent travel to the Philippines was the issue.

I think there is at least one company that would be delighted to sponsor and supply several dozen templates. Plenty for "evaporation." But if a template is used, I think the 9 has to move to the spot.

Nobody messes with Mike, not even Matchroom. MR wanted him to implement its rules at Turning Stone to keep it a MR qualifying event and he basically told them to take a hike 😆
Well and now look at it. The amount of pro’s there is only a handful. There’s a reason the sbx went to 9 ball and hooked p with matchroom because the event was dying. So In the end he can be stubborn but he loses the top tier players that used to show up.

Now how long till the first response of "oh he is old school. he can do what he wants. he don't care, he fills it up every year, he doesn't have to accommodate". Blah blah blah.

Can look up the past dozen TS threads and they have these same comments.

A fairly irrelevant tournament.

It used to be relevant. In fact my friend is having to ask Allen hopkins if he can play in the amateur this year because last year he finished top 16 in this tournament. Allen had the rule that for certain tournaments if you finished top 16 you couldn’t play in the amateur at the expo But the fact is this tournament is over 90% amateur at this point. So finishing top 16 isn’t as impressive as it used to be when a murders row used to show up. But hey it still sells out and if this is what the guy running the tournament wants it is his tournament But if he does want all the pro’s to start coming back he’s going to have to swallow his pride and ego and work with matchroom like Allen is.

I see no correlation with Matchroom at all.

Heck you got twice as many top guys playing at some "mini derb" than this thing.

From the little I have watched of this TS, this is easily the least amount of racking issues I have seen in a long time.

On last night's stream WorldPro mentioned some rule that you lose a game if you complain about a rack. That new? I don't follow Joss tour at all.

Well the expo turn out changed when they hooked up with matchroom and made it a points event and it’s not like the payout is all that great there either 🤷‍♂️

you can’t compare the derby even if its the mini. the derby is special.
