The pilot for this TV show was shot on Monday here in L.A. I heard that $300,000 was spent on the set for the piloting of the show. This is probably a good sign that the show will be picked up. Will wait and see.

Wayne,
I have no idea what the show is about, but I always thought it would be ultra-cool to take two top players, each post $10,000, then lock them in a poolroom until one player had all the money. Let them change the bet, change the game, wager on propositions, bet on individual shots during a game. The fewer rules the better (though you need some kind of minimum bet to keep things moving). I'll watch, whatever the rules - I'm a pool junkie.

Forget $10,000. Get 4 players, get $100,000, and make it a winner take all ring game where they all start at $25,000 and post $5000 per a game 10-ball winner breaks. When a person is knocked out the bet goes up by $2500. The last 2 standing would be doing $10,000 a game.

That would be a cheap show to produce compared to todays standards on TV, $100,000 is nothing and the set would be what, a $10,000 table with some set design made to look like a classic pool hall, and it would be very popular for the big money and the personalities you could get on it. Carry the winner over from last week and you could get a player winning hundreds of thousands of dollars and making a big name for himself and the sport. I think even non-pool players would watch a show like that. Imagine it, Strickland, Pagulayan, Archer, and Efren on week 1 for a winner takes all $100,000 10 ball ring game, I am there with my VCR running, no doubt.

Looks like Mars C. has a hand in it also. Lets hope it does as well as the WPT. Could spark some interest in the game.

I would bet that no one in their right mind is going to tell how much they make hustling. I would venture to say that someone of Jersey Red, Fats, McCready, and Cornbread could make an easy 50 to 75 grand a year hustling (no mention of how much lost as you said) multiply that by 10 years and you have your 500,000 figure.

JV<---- Has made a cool 1.5 Million working for Corporate America over the years... Now lets deduct food, Mortgage, Closing Costs, Taxes, Kids clothes, school supplies, Gas, Car Payment and yup I have exactly $12.53 in my checking account. LIVIN' LARGE!!!

Mars right after directing and starring in Pool Hall Junkies had a major tumor and other complications and was left crippled. It took him a couple of years to get back on his feet and he seems to be almost totally recovered.

I only saw him hustle once about 5 years ago when he was giving "Action Al" a spot in 8 ball where after the break Mars would take 4 of Al's balls off the table. Al thought this to his benefit and couldn't figure out why Mars won every game.

There was a place called the Hollywood Athletic Club that drew a lot of celebrities and action players in the 90's and Mars was a regular there and may have done quite well because I have heard there was lots of big action.

That's great news, I remember suggesting something very similar a while back but a few people on this board thought it wouldn't work!

Will be interesting to find out what format they use?

Hollywood Athletic Club or not, celebrities just don't go handing out money everyday to the same guy like he's on the payroll.
You've seen him play, what was your assessment of what he could do and what he was capable of doing in different games?

"Legendary Mars C" I never heard of the guy until Pool hall junkies which was kind of childish. "Action Al" couldn't of seen alot of action if he was falling for the balls off the table gig.

Alright y'all....here's some more info....

The pilot was actually shot on Saturday...and yes, I was there. The format is cool...and it really does give anyone a chance to win all the cash. I cannot divulge a lot of details at this time...but I promise to give you all intimate information once I am told that is OK to talk about it publicly. (Unfortunately..I signed something that prevents me from releasing any info at this time.)

I will say this, once the series is picked up, I will write a story about my "Hollywood" experience....and I will give you all details about how to try out to become a contestant....

All the best,

Melissa H.

I only saw him play a couple of times (eight ball and nine ball) and he is definitely well below my caliber but he probably plays somewhere in your range LOL. I really have no idea if he was a big hustler or not.

Boy....you'd better be smilin' when you say that. LMAO You better see if that place still exists, you might be knocking off a million. :D

I knew it!!!! As soon as I read the preview of this I knew it would be Hollywood, reality show phony.Remember Bruce Christopher, who laid his penis on the rail of a pool table for Playgirl? This concept isn't much better.
What utter BS!! This guy winner of a half million dollars? What's wrong with having people who have paid their dues in charge of something like this?

Real simple Grady...nobody that's paid their dues thought of it...nobody that's paid their dues has enough clout and BS to move it through the proper channels to get it shown...and nobody that's paid their dues ever produced a movie about pool and had it play in theaters and distributed in video. (regardless of how lousy it was) He does have the know how.

And I said it right from the beginning...a half million dollar winner in tournaments and hustling? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SHITTING ME!!
