tv shows with pool

Kinda showing my age <or I watched way too much TV as a kid> but there was a Dick Van Dyke episode about a hustler coming to his home and tanning his ass...ala Eddie Felson's 3-C scene in the Hustler...minus Piper Lauri and G.C Scott of course. Along the same lines but alil different, George Thorogood's pool induced music video "Bad To the Bone" featuring Willie Mosconi and Bo Diddley!!!

This thread reminds me of something I've been telling people for years! Does anyone notice the similarities that almost all of the show episodes have in common?

They are all about gambling and the shady side of pool! When are people going to realize that this is the side of pool that the general public is interested in! It's like poker!

"The powers that be" keep insisting that what pool needs, to become popular in the main stream, is to "clean up the image"! I say that they are totally wrong! What they need to do is focus on the gambling and hustles! This is what will sell pool to the public, not some sterilized version that certain people are trying to make it in to!

Every upsurge in pool has followed a pool movie about gambling! The Poker popularity just goes to show that as well! When will people learn?

just more hot air!

Lost in Syndication

Beneath all these classic films and dramatic television episodes lies a real gem just waiting to be unearthed. I had the pleasure of witnessing this historic work of pure comic genius as a youngster.

In this Family Matters episode, the multi-talented Steve Urkel shows us what hustling is all about. Unfortunately Steve finds his mark at the roughest biker bar in town, and gets himself in quite the pickle with his sharpshooting, pencil-pushing antics.

But never fear! Who comes to the rescue? Why it's Grandma Winslow of course, and she don't take no lip off of nobody. After lathering her hands in talcum powder, she runs the rack in style saving the day and Steve's khaki-clad rear end to boot.

Lesson learned, Grandma Winslow, lesson learned.

Re. the last line of the Twilight Zone episode....Does anyone know if there still is (was?) a pool hall in Sandusky, Ohio called, "Masons?"

Curious,

Jeff Livingston

I've seen episodes of Sledge Hammer and Get Smart with sideplots involving quite a lot of pool. Hilarious ! :p

That's right

I remember that episode! Rob loses a bundle to "Blackie" and Lara (who's a closet pool player) wins it back or something like that.

No one mentioned the Episode of "Sex in the City" where Jeanette Lee made her acting debut.

And didn't Jenn Barretta do something with the soap "All My Children"??

Lets' not forget Cheers and Drew Carey. Oh, and in the fist episode od "Friends" Ross and Rachel almost had sex on the pool table of the bar that closed to become the coffee shop. Yeah, it wasn't playin' your stanard game of pool, but damn close.

I saw the Sanford and Son episode a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty realistic. Fred gets a table and starts playing pool all the time. Lamont gets mad at Fred because he starts neglecting his work, family and freinds just so he can shoot pool.

I saw this...

I saw this episode of Law and Order once where (the late) Jerry Orbach was questioning a guy in a pool hall and took his cue and ran the table. He was known to be a fan and a good player. One more trivial thing I was watching the Cowboy Bebop the movie (anime series) and there is a scene where they are showing a list of names, well when they translated it into English all the names were custom cuemakers names, it was very strange and cool at the same time.

How about the pool table outside in the Drew Carrey Show(At Drew's house). One episode he gets pissed off and goes outside and starts knocking balls around in the rain.

Jack Klugman and Jonathan Winters.
Yeah thats the one.
Jack wishes to be able to beat Jonathon and when he finally does he has to wait an eternity for someone else to now challenge him.

I was just wondering what TV shows and movies that I had missed that had something to do with pool. I have seen :
The Baron and the Kid (movie)
Kiss Shot (movie)
Chalk (movie)
Baltimore Bullet (movie)
Pool Hall Junkies (movie)
The Hustler (movie)
The Color of Money (movie)

I hear that there is a Twilight Zone episode that is about pool. I have also seen an episode of Sanford and Son that was about pool. How many have I missed?

You missed Stickmen (movie).
Anybody who thinks Pool Hall Junkies was the worse pool movie ever hasn't seen "Chalk" or "Stickmen". Boy did they ever suck. PHJ was pretty bad too.

I don't care if you are pregnant . . . . . you can't say "fist" and "sex" in the same sentence in a family forum! :D

I don't know the original format, but W.C. Fields had a hilarious scene shooting with a crooked cue and doing some crazy trick stuff. It's a classic.

And, YES, I'm older than dirt to bring this one up!
