I think they had shortened it to 9 and 7, from 13 on the prior rounds, in the 90's/2000's, to fit on ESPN. The 7 might have been the women, I don't remember for sure.

One of our members here is an ER MD living in Florida, and he goes to big football games all the time. It's a requirement to have X amount of Dr's on site when there are X amount of people in his state. I suspect it's the same thing with police. Probably varies by city/state, but that's the general idea.

I don't recall any major pool tournament I've been to in the past 57 years that had so many uniformed police. That includes tournaments with over 2000 spectators.
