whats the point of this? im not trying to pick on you johnny but really why another us open thread...the first day of the tournament there will be x amount of players and entries it is what it is at this point . if you go or spend as a spectator or buy the ppv or buy a dvd that would be great but i dont see why you get so twisted up when aside from making some forum fodder what does this tournament do to affect your well being?
I think johnnyt is acually EARL STRICKLAND....![]()
If I was a player entered, Id be concerned. 25% of the field comped at $1k an entry, combined with the past payout history issues and this seems like its a potential powderkeg of drama waiting to explode.
I am curious who all puts in the $75,000 added money?
I do not understand why it is such a big deal, because the 15 that get in for free are probably not going to get in the money anyways. Odds are that they will go 2 and out, right, because these are players with a lower skill level (compared to the top contenders), and they may have won a qualifier for a free entry (so they are most likely not pro players). I think it is nice of the people that run the tournament to give a lower level player a chance at the US Open (with a free entry), and giving a player like Nick Varner (for example) a free entry is out of respect, and I think it is great for the game, and may even sell more tickets (I do not know). I just do not see why you guys are making such a big deal about it.
the only qualifier for free entry is previously winning the us open, so most of the free entries are gonna be damn hard to beat, even the ones past their prime, i don't see alot them going 2 and out, not Shane, Darren and Alex for starters
Your argument is perfectly valid here Johnny,i am just mesmerized by the fact that so many just dont get it...i guess it just takes some effort to actually THINK![]()
Or they could just look at it as added incentive to WIN and get a "free" entry every year! There don't seem to be any complaints from registered players........

isn't this year the exception because it's the 40th Anniversary, so Barry extended it to all past winners? (as long as they wear their green jackets!) and next year it reverts back to only 1; the previous year's winner?
