U.S. Open Checks Bounced???

So you think it is better for no one to get paid because there is no tournament, than for a few people to get paid two weeks late because there is a tournament. hmmm.......

I think the constant and re-occurring B.S. surrounding the US Open needs to come to an end. That is either going to happen by it dying, or someone else running it. Barry has the best of intentions but he is no longer equipped to run this caliber of tournament.

The first screwing is taking some of the recorded content and plastering it all over YouTube for free so YouTube makes all the advertising revenue. Completely retarded if you ask me.

As opposed to a billiard streaming network of some kind?

That's some third party uploading to youtube. It could get nuked at any time.

Accu-stats charged people to watch the match, but lately it seems some people are recording the streams and putting them on youtube.

It would be nice if some day pool reached the point where it was profitable to just put up the matches for free (and live) but we're not there yet.

So my question is, who from AZ would like to volunteer at the open next year? You know, take over 10 days off from work, come be yelled at and treated like shit by Barry and then not get paid at the end of it? Then have him not answer or return phone calls......That happened to people this year, at least the players got a bad check lol.

I'm there..send me a round trip ticket that inclueds room with three meals a day..
of coarse I'll need to CHECK res..first.

Barry B and Charlie Williams go out of their way to try to run tournaments for Pro's and everyone complains. They are only trying to help the world of pool and everyone on here throws rocks at them. If Barry B. is short the added money, but the added money takes one month to be paid to the players......where is the problem? How do Barry's or Charlie's past demons effect/affect their selfless contributions to the world of pool?

Only solution left for pool:

Have the BCA/APB/??? agree on 8 qualifying tournaments for the Mosconi Cup points for the USA team. Everyone speaks of sponsors, so why not get the biggest business related to pool to sponsor the 8 tournaments with advertising. Pool Cue Manufacturers and Amateur leagues. Advertising can be written off. $450,000 from all pool related businesses would be distributed:

$100,000 added to the US Open

$50,000 added to each of the 7 remaining tournaments.

Since the pro's have burned all the bridges with corporate sponsors, casino's, Vegas and ESPN it is time for POOL'S BUSINESSES to step up and bail out pool.

Another interesting question...The NY Yankees kept the revenue they generated from Japan marketing a secret from the other MLB teams from 96 to early 2000's. Allegedly $1 Billion dollars made off the Fat Toad and Matsui. Are the accustat streams making a killing on streaming to Pinoy's and Brits? If so they can add to the Kick to make up the $450,000. Free streams draw 1,000 viewers in the US...I don't see much money from here...

The sad truth is if US Professional Pool has not found a way to market SVB for the last 5 years to ESPN and bring pool back just on TV it will remain as it is...

Also Celtic should review any and all decisions made thru AZ...his posts on here were great.

VIVA BARRY B. AND CHARLIE WILLIAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It appears that you have no clue what you are talking about. Sorry but you are wrong on almost everything and suggesting things that everyone knows and have been trying to make happen.

Insane

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insane.

This tournament has been the cream of the crop for US events for such a long time.

Unfortunately, it does seem to me that the event has squandered the opportunity to be the symbol of what the Sport needs to be, as far as representing itself to the public. With the ongoing controversy that continues to surround the event, there is no wondering as to why there is no major TV or press coverage.

What the event has established is a legacy of history as far as the accomplishments of the players. And being Open means anyone with the money can compete. How many players that have found great honor in just cashing in the event? I helped several players, years ago, to compete in the Open because of the prestige of being a participant. And it was a pleasure in doing so.

I truly know what it is like to stage a big event. The planning is very time consuming and at post time, you hope the show you have invested in staging is a success. I could never say I know the in's and out's of the production of the US Open, but for the same thing to happen year in and year out is crazy.

The general view from the public's eye would be a disheartening one for those of us who care about the Sport. This situation, regardless of excuses on this and that's, it another black mark for pool.

There seems to be a lack of vision from the promoters as to how important keeping a clean slate for this spectacular event means to all of us.

It is just another set back for our Sport to rise up out of the doldrums of being viewed as some backroom game.

What a shameful end to what I am sure was probably a great event.

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe the going rate is shareing a room with another person working, and getting yourself there and home on your own dime.

SOLUTION TO PEOPLE NOT GETTING PAID.

ONE POOL GOVERNING BODY FOR ALL OF POOL in the USA, NOT 7 OR 10

ONE POOL GOVERNING BODY GUARANTEEING ALL TOURNAMENT WINNINGS, WITH FUNDS GUARANTEED BY PRE DEPOSITED INTO AN ESCROW ACCOUNT

ONE POOL GOVERNING BODY, HAVING ONE SET OF RULES FOR ALL POOL TOURNAMENTS

Could this idea work? IMHO Good chance When was the last time Winners got Bad, or No Pay at a PGA, or LPGA EVENT?

Coming from the guy who thinks the ABP started Bonus Ball, makes me wonder if you actually know a thing about any pool related matters or if you just make this crap up on the fly.

Chris...I too am an independent contractor. While I get paid immediately when I do a lesson or pool school, doing exhibitions at colleges & universities I generally have to wait 30+ days to get paid (60-90 days for the military). Years ago it was different. Jack White was almost always paid onsite, and it worked that way for me too, for several years after I took over his tour. I also have to front my own expenses...but it's part of the "cost of doing business", especially when you're doing something you really love! LOL

I know no one wants to hear this but as a subcontractor I have to point it out..... I have an AR of about 60days.... I do the work and I wait on a check... I don't get covered for my expenses... I wait on them too.... I have lot's of bones to pick with Barry but as long as he pays all players in the next 30 days the players are wayyyyy ahead of the rest of us working stiffs..........

And this would be all fine for the US Open and any major event if the players knew it going in. Just draft a contract and all players have to sign it and agree on the terms.

AARRGHHHH I am being sucked in by this AGAIN. Next year I promise to simply buy the PPV and not discuss the tournament with anyone. Grrrrr.

:-)

Thats all well and good for both Renfro and Scott that you are contracted and get paid in 30-60 days. That is the deal you made with the people you work for. Shane or any of the others made that deal before they left to play the event. That to me is the big difference here.

kwakaa...Sorry man, but I had to laugh reading your post. There isn't a big enough gun to "force" anybody you mentioned to do anything about anything. Also...using the words "Charlie Williams" and "selfless contributions to the pool world" equal only one thing...an OXYMORON! ROTFLMAO CW is out for CW...and nobody else. He continues to prove that again and again...with his actions (or inactions, depending on how you look at it)!

Jesters...Yep, and the biggest difference is that Chris and I have SIGNED CONTRACTS for the work we do...BEFORE we do it. So we know we will get paid...or at least we would have legal recourse! Perhaps the players should seek that as a partial solution.

Have you ever played in a tournament where you asked the TD to sign a contract before you paid your entry? Thats just silly nobody does that. Having a governing body that requires the money or a contract up front may make more sense.
