U.S. Open Checks Bounced???

US Open checks

If that is true that is great news!
All we need now is confirmation from some of the players that are owed.

It was suggested to me that i be a little more clear in the role of the Billiard Congress of America. In 2011, the BCA agreed to hold the players entry fees and then make sure the funds were released to the US Open for paying the players. They had nothing to do with the added money. It is important for everyone to know that the BCA (Billiard Congress of America) tried to help the players get paid. Everyone worked together and the players got paid.

In 2012, the BCA did the same thing. They released the player entry fees they were holding to the US Open. They never had anything to do with added money or anything else.

Unfortunately, there was not enough money to pay all the players. The BCA had nothing to do with that - player payments were up to the US

This was the first time the BCA had ever held the money for another tournament. It was good that they got involved and tried to elevate the condition of the game.

It worked out well in 2011 -but not so well in 2012.

Just wanted to clear this up if there was any confusion. I am not on the BCA board and do not speak for them. I just wanted the industry to know that they did try to help keep things going smoothly.

Communication has been awful since the end of the tournament.

Considering Barry is very quick to make statements on here, that tells the story of someone wanting to lie low

Oh, so the check's in the mail. Of course I think that has been the problem all along. I wonder how many have cleared a bank. As Barry has made no statement and no player has made a statement and Jay hasn't said anything about his check clearing I have to doubt everyone has been paid.

Agreed, iam sure if alls been paid Barry would be the first one on here to tell all of us, as we all know he does read these forums, !

i'm gonna take a wild guess here and say i think BB called all the players that are owed personally and asked them to be a little dicrete in the matter and that the tournament's reputation was on the line and that a forum full of people were talking about it and this and that.

that's just my guess of course.

there's NO WAY he's not aware of the discussions here and the silence only means there are still outstanding monies owed. i'm pretty sure we would have seen an apology "press release" if everything was taken care of..

jmo.

I believe that my check cleared. There is a window of opportunity one day a week that I took advantage of. My check was for less than the top six players though and I know that some (if not all) of them are still holding the bag as we speak. There are definitely other players who finished in lower positions who have not been paid (some have not yet received their checks) at this time.

I suspect this will look like prior U.S. Opens where they are paid either with post dated checks or in some cases (the larger payouts), piecemeal. The players for the most part prefer to remain silent, afraid to antagonize anyone for fear of not getting paid. This is the uncomfortable situation they find themselves in. I have been personally contacted by more than a few players asking about their money, and I've told them I will not intervene this year.

I know that BB is very upset with me for posts I've made on here, but I'm tired of all this nonsense. I have no interest in being part of any further Opens that he produces and he knows it. I worked very hard to make this past U.S. Open a success and in return I was subjected to constant demeaning and belittling comments. I was not alone in this regard. I will not subject myself to behavior like this in the future. I left the Open upset and disappointed for the first time ever.

Here here

Am I the only one who thinks this shit is absolutely HILARIOUS?! I mean how many years can you play in an event and have the same thing happen with payouts before you lose your right to b*tch? If you come to my house 5 days in a row and I kick you in the nuts when you walk through the door each day, on that 6th day is it your fault or mine if you choose to walk through that door again? Yes, I know that this is how they make their money and that they'll never protest this tournament, but at some point you have to accept that "kick in the nuts" if you're going to walk through the door again. I used to go nuts on BB being a douche for treating the players this way, but obviously the players are masochists and enjoy it.

Well put... TAR

I think many will take your route Jay, including players, so this just mite be the beginning of the end for the Us open in Barry hands, and with this same problem thats been going on way to long people are just not going to believe in Barry anymore! I just hope we never lose the US OPEN and i know someone or someones can make the biggest tournament in the U.S.A a success! This tournament needs a fresh start with reliable people in charge!

Jay,

I respect your position and applaud you for being a stand up guy. Nice to see someone with a set of balls who is not afraid to speak up.

You are also correct in that people are silent due to fear... Raise hell and at best you don't get paid.

I laughed out loud reading BB's press release about "next years open". What a set of balls he has. Shut it down. Players, fans, and employes should just not go if he plans on running it again next year. Anybody can put on a tournament saying it's for 100,000+ and hope they get enough tickets sold, enough sponsorship, the weather is good, and the dice come up right. I have a hunch BB will wake up in a month or so and cancel 2013's US Open. I don't believe he could get enough pro players to enter if he trie. Johnnyt

Then I most definitely stand corrected as you're in a much better position than I am to know :) I only hear the talk around Q Masters by others & as you know, it's not always reliable. I, for one, think you did a wonderful job this year & even though the venue left much to be desired it was a lot of fun. You will be missed at any future ones.
