U.S. Open One-Pocket In Progress

Just got a phone call from my homeboy, Brandon Shuff, who made the trek to Las Vegas and is competing in the U.S. Open One-Pocket tournament. Some of the players in attendance are Maryland's Tom-Tom Wirth, Detroit's Ronnie "Everything is Funny When You're Winning Big Money" Wiseman, 2004 U.S. Open 9-Ball Champion Gabe Owen, Shannon "The Cannon" Daulton, Scott "The Freezer" Frost, and Ike Runnels.

The entry fee for this event is $175. Brandon got in at the last minute from a NUTS qualifier, due to Josh Brothers not being able to make it to the event.

The venue at Las Vegas is quite exquisite and exciting for the young 22-year-old, but he's a man on a mission and hopes to make a score. Some folks might remember the Virginia young gun had a fine showing this year at the U.S. Open, knocking down quite a few heavy hitters, to include Santos and Larry Nevel.

A Bank Pool tournament will begin this weekend, limited to 32 players.

Brandon is going to give me updates when time allows via cell phone. So I'll post 'em up as soon as I get 'em for the inquiring minds like mine! :p

Hey Jam, thanks for the info. I'm in Mesa, AZ, but it sounds like a good time for a road trip to Vegas! Can you tell me where they're playing up there? Thanks.

Brandon played stacy from Phoenix
Ronnie Allen one his first match against a nobody amateur
`Los Angeles Richy` beat Tommy d`Lorenzo
I left when Gabe was playing some guy who is clueless
Ronnie Allen was asking Scott Frost to play him 11-5 and breaks.Scott would not give that kind of spot.I told Ronnie that he can`t beat scott with that spot because he can`t make 5 balls against Scot Frost
Jeremy Jones is not there.

much action going on down there?

Thare are no tables arranged for action. All the tables are for tournament. only. For action, players go to cue club.
This evening I will report on the results of some of the matches.I am going to take a pen and paper with me to note down.
I will not be able to provide any details on the shots because I can`t remember most of them for more than 5-10 seconds.
Now a days it is getting difficult to obtain info( for how much money etc...) on action games because of secrecy maintained by the involved parties.

Tom-Tom is on the w side and is playing Gus (?Brienso?). Leading by a 2-1. Brandon has won 2/2 so far.

Hi,
Here are results few matches:
First round:
James Walden over Ike Runnels
gabe Gerardi( Mail Man) over donald harp
Scott Frost over Edward scott
Brando Shuff over Tres Kane
Ronie wiseman over Jeramaiah Johnson.

second round:
Gabe oven narrowly escaped the defeat from Angel Martinez of Tucson , AZ.Gabe beat angel 4-3
Richard gremier over Tommy D`Lorenzo
George Teyechea over louis Figuroa
Scott Frost over ?
Gabe Gerardi over Larry DeMayer
Brandon shuff over Michel Treher
James walden over Dan Wallace
Shanon Daulton over Jay Helfert

By the way Ronie allen is in the loosers bracket.Harry platis is also on the loosers side.

Shanon was playing Ja Helfert. One time when Jay was at the table, shanon went to the the next table and hit some practice shots. They both appear to be friends and played with out any tension.Meanwhile Scot Frost came to play his match next to Shanon`s table.Scot was engaged in a conversation with a friend in audience. That time Shanon already took the position to shoot and the stick was rubbing his chin with the warm up stokes.while taking those strokes he responds to scot`s comment with a comment.I thought that was funny and I never saw anything like that.whole thing was more like friends playing in their home.

One time during his match Scot Frost scratched. After that with ball in hand in the kitchen his opponent made 4 balls and after that played defence.Scot comes to the table and says loudly refering to his opponent``that is all you coud do``? What a provocative comment!!!!
