Just got a phone call from my homeboy, Brandon Shuff, who made the trek to Las Vegas and is competing in the U.S. Open One-Pocket tournament. Some of the players in attendance are Maryland's Tom-Tom Wirth, Detroit's Ronnie "Everything is Funny When You're Winning Big Money" Wiseman, 2004 U.S. Open 9-Ball Champion Gabe Owen, Shannon "The Cannon" Daulton, Scott "The Freezer" Frost, and Ike Runnels.
The entry fee for this event is $175. Brandon got in at the last minute from a NUTS qualifier, due to Josh Brothers not being able to make it to the event.
The venue at Las Vegas is quite exquisite and exciting for the young 22-year-old, but he's a man on a mission and hopes to make a score. Some folks might remember the Virginia young gun had a fine showing this year at the U.S. Open, knocking down quite a few heavy hitters, to include Santos and Larry Nevel.
A Bank Pool tournament will begin this weekend, limited to 32 players.
Brandon is going to give me updates when time allows via cell phone. So I'll post 'em up as soon as I get 'em for the inquiring minds like mine!
