Doesn't look like Amboyna to me. Looks much more like Thuya burl.

Red or Yellow, both great stuff and not much ugly about the Yellow. Figured Yellow Nara is fabulous.

Yeah its similiar looking, but Thuya has the little black dots............heres a couple pics. This stuff is not as oily as Thuya........and much lighter, softer than red amboyna. I will have them stabilized eventually...

Hi,

Some people just love to spoil the fun. I don't care what it's called, me likes it! I don't want to be a wood expert. Never did. My eyes are all the expert I need on this stuff.

When you put a piece of burl like that on one of your cues you got to plan it for a big cue that gets the big bucks. IMO The average guy has no idea what it cost and the price or effort for stabilization process.

Yes, although Thuya is a beautiful wood it is very light and crumbly. I have a number of inlay slabs and blocks but very seldom use it anymore, even for inlays as my inlays are pretty tight fitting and sharp corners and tips break off to often upon installation. It's surprising that these two burls should look so similar since they come from such completely different climates, areas of the world and ones more of a bush and the other a tree.

I like Thuya a lot, but the stabilizers hate it, and some will charge you extra to process it. The oils apparently leach out during the process and screw up the syrup.... Beautiful looking burl tho, and expensive too
