Ultimate Tip Tool discontinued???

I absolutely agree with you. the fork area is to be avoided at all costs!

Scuffing, sandpaper works, yes.

Not for precise shaping though. Take the UTT, place on floor, secure between insides of feet and insert cue (it will be upside-down, yes), rolling cue back and forth between palms into dime or nickle shaper...
Voila- your tip is shaped perfectly...!

Oh, a piece of medium to coarse sandpaper in my case seems to work just fine. I find I rarely need even that.
Trying to burnish with the UTT is suicide for your ferrule. Everything else is concerned with shaping or roughing, the sand paper does the trick.
I own virtually every gadget they've sold just because I can't resist a new gadget, I really think they were all a waste of money.

I don't agree with the advice to avoid the burnishing "fork"...at least except for very thin tip diameters.

The fork is in a slight V shape so when it is slid onto the tip, it really doesn't have to touch the ferrule. Clearly, you have to be carefull and not just twist it unthinkingly.

I've used it for well over 10 years. It does an excellent and quick job of burnishing and I have never done any damage to a ferrule.

The only scratches on my ferrules are micro-fine and are along the longitudinal axis (up and down if you will) and not "around" the ferrule so those scrathes are caused by the occasional use of "cue papers" and have nothing to do with the UTT.

I guess it doesn't make any difference now but the Tool will last a lifetime so I'll just buy a bunch of replacement sandpaper inserts since I will never have need to buy another Tool...which may be one of the reasons the company may have gone out of business.

Regards,
Jim

No contact

Muellers has also quit carrying the tools and the refills. Efforts to contact the manufacturer have been in vain. Now, the phone just rings....
