(Un)Luck of the Draw at Valley Forge!!

I think he is referring to this match Warren Kiamco vs Antonio Gabica in the first round.

I was aware... the Immonen remark was just my weird sense of humor... I thought the intent would be obvious if my entire post was read.

So which two pros kicked your butt?
Gabica kicked mine butt at the Green Room's Monday night tournament in South Jersey four nights ago.

Ya Heard?!@

And to think not many heard of him, now people are complaining on the AZ about his "seeding".

BTW...I live for posts with no little fact and a lot of speculation that bash pro tournaments that get five pages of threads on a message board.

Nobody even seems to know how the tournament at VF was supposed to be made up, but I see a lot of opinions on it!

Bayawak... it may seem like a subtle difference... but, imo, you are inferring that the draw was rigged/fixed in your original post... not just wondering... fwiw.

Yep, that was exactly what he was inferring. If these two players continue entering the same tournaments across the country the way that they have, I wouldn't be surprised if they draw each other in the first round again.

anything could happen at a draw.....

As an avid pool aficionado, I have been to countless pro tournaments here and abroad. The majority of these tournaments are held and presented with integrity and honesty by the promoters of the events.

The best players usually, and I say "usually", will win the event. But, if the players are railroaded in their draws, the outcome becomes totally different!!

The Gabriels Open at Valley Forge comes to mind. At the opening round, two Filipino players were pitted against each other. I really believe that this is so transparent that they try to eliminate these two fine players at the onset of the competition.

John Schmidt played against two weak players whom he can spot a lot of weight. Several other champions were matched against a lot of other weaker players who virtually had no chance of beating them. We understand that they want to put up a good show but not to the expense of these players who they consider as "cannon-fodders".

Please keep in mind that these are the players who support and always play in these tournaments. Without the attendance and support of these players, these tournaments will not stay afloat.

Let us keep these tournaments fair and let the dice lay where they fall!!

Bayawak aka Tirador!!

So how would you have done the draw? What would of happened if the Filipinos were pitted against the "cannon-fodders" and Archer and Smith pitted against each other?

If you check out the second round in the winner's side, don't you think that the tournament is taking it's course?

These things happens. I do public drawings for all my tournaments and I have had players match against each other in successive tournaments. To my good fortune, the two players saw the draw each time, and could not say it was fixed.

Therefore, I can only say that it was most probably the luck of draw that the Filipinos had to match each other.

Dont take this seriously now guys!

What is there to wonder about? It is what it is. Your title says (un)luck of the draw, but everything in your post inferred to the draw being rigged or fixed against certain players. That is the part I have a problem with. It is not just saying how unlucky it is or was that two people matched up in the first round, it is saying that it is so clear that they are trying to knock them out of the tourney early. Also, I agree with the other person that said he should be able to post anything he wants. He has every right to. Just like I have every right to respond.

I think that these tournaments are rigged.Just before the event at valley forge i saw the guys from gabriel tables sawing 6 inchs off the legs of the tables to help all the asian players, thats just not fair:D :D :D

Whether it was rigged or not doesnt matter, the draw shouldnt really matter if your prepared. If I went to a big tourney and was hitting balls good, I mean really good, Id want the best player the first round. If that happened to be a pro so what? isnt that why you go to these events? or would you rather loose to someone no one ever heard of? I believe if there is something going on with the draw its not to put people out, but to simply give the people who attend the oportunity to play a world class player. If you and your buddy have to play each other in the first round then Id say thats just bad luck.

I really dont believe anything is going on, all I know is if I go to an event and draw Efren the first round Im surely not going to complain, Im gonna play like a mad man and loose likely, but the experiance would be well worth any entry fee I could ever pay. That would be worth more than playing and beating No bodys and win the tournament. just my .000002

Yes we heard:) Though my question was for the OP who seems to be whining like a little puppy dog after they get stuck under the fence while trying to dig out. I'd love to get throttled by a guy like that just so I could watch him play. It's better to get beat by a world beater than a banger who shits in the 9 four or five times in a row:D

My wife and I have played in well over a hundred tournaments together and out of all those times we have ended up playing each other 6 times. Out of those 6 times, 2 of them were the first match. She is currently leading the series 4-2. I have never seen a tournament rigged in all my years of playing pool and I don't figure I will. Bayawak, sounds like you are just a whiner.

Just a word of advice--she should be up 6-0. :D

LOL, I understand what you are saying but I found out early when we started dating that it is not a good idea to not play to my ability against her. She would much rather get beat the have someone let her win. Personally, I don't let anyone win or lose on purpose. I try my best every game of every match no matter who I am playing. Anytime I can play and walk away, win or lose, and say that I played my best then it is a good day.

FYI, I've done the draw at well over 100 major tournaments in my life and it never ceases to amaze how often the following things happen:

Two players travel together to the tournament and draw each other in the first round.
Two of the best players in the field are matched up in the first round (countless times).
Two guys from the same city draw each other in the first round.
Two best friends draw each other in the first round.

TWO FILIPINOS DRAW EACH OTHER IN THE FIRST ROUND. How about Efren vs. Bustamante at the Bicycle Club in Los Angeles. Do you think I fixed it?

IT HAPPENS!!! GET OVER IT!! If you're a pro you go out and play the match and never utter a word about the draw. Which I suspect is the case here.

I was hoping thatd happen to me at the derby 06.

Get matched up with some foreigner that I read about. But I think the schedules were running late and I couldnt stay for my match. The regret of missing that match I say runs deep.
