how would an uncored ebony or african blackwood cue hit? i guess mostly ebony because i hear nothing but good things about uncored african blackwood.

is balancing an issue?

All cues I have made with woods like blackwood and ebony have been lively feeling. I try not to core any of my cues as I want them to play like the wood they're made of. You can bring a blackwood cue to weight without much added weight from pins, which makes a very naturally well balanced cue.

Thanks for the input man.

anyone else have anything they could add?

I use a lot of Macassar Ebony in my cues and usually use it uncored. I can get a natural weight of about 18.5 oz and I really like the way it hits.

The cue would probably need to be cored. Blackwood is very dense, and heavy.....

Blackwood usually comes in a little over 19oz with a G-10 or carbon fiber joint pin and an aluminum a-bolt.

i can get Ebony to come in under 19oz the same way.

either way they balance nicely, slightly forward.

Paired with a very good quality maple handle, either one should hit great.

I have made several 6-pie laminated Ebony butted cues and they have all played extremely well. Can make them 18oz and up.
