All cues I have made with woods like blackwood and ebony have been lively feeling. I try not to core any of my cues as I want them to play like the wood they're made of. You can bring a blackwood cue to weight without much added weight from pins, which makes a very naturally well balanced cue.

Blackwood usually comes in a little over 19oz with a G-10 or carbon fiber joint pin and an aluminum a-bolt.
i can get Ebony to come in under 19oz the same way.
either way they balance nicely,slightly forward.

I have made several 6-pie laminated Ebony butted cues and they have all played extremely well. Can make them 18oz and up.
