Uni lock joints

Are uni lock joints, which if I understand are the quick type joints as durable/ strong / mechanically sound as most other joints? Or are they just quick and convenient. Seems to be on a lot of jump cues and I see the convinience in that application as it is not a player. I realize most cue makers probably think their joint is the cats meow. Is a uni lock the same or different than a radial type screw joint? And while we are talking about joints, what is the most common joint? Please don't tell me I should have posted this thread in the cue maker section as I just realized that my self! LOL

A lot of the predator cues have the uni-loc... including the BK2 break. I have 2 uni-locs - my player (which is a lucasi) and my bk2 break cue. When it's put together, it feels just as solid, to me, as any other joint type i've tried/handled.

I have a new Predator uni-loc cue, and it comes loose all the time. Very irritating but I bought the cue because it was 21 ounces. Shoots great but I hate the uni-loc joint.

I like the uni lock joint on my jump cue personally mainly because i only break that cue out for one shot and its quick to assemble and put away afterwords. I have never really had a problem with shot making because of it and the joint itself is as strong as every after with no bending. That being said having used a friends uni lock Lucasi player cue and that was an entirely different experience, after long periods of play I would notice the joint loosening essentially requiring a constant check to make sure it was tight before each shot. In my opinion having experienced that I would avoid uni lock players it just adds another unnecessary distraction and potential equipment failure just to save a few seconds of unscrewing after the game.

I've experienced the same problems with the Uni-Loc on my Predator BK. It comes loose, and I always have to make sure I tighten it before each break. I certainly wouldn't want that joint on a playing cue. OTOH, I really like the Uni-Loc Radial joint.

I have been using a SP8RW (wood to wood) uni-lock for 3 years. It has detorqued itself less than 8 times in that amount of time. So, about once an hour I make sure the TQ is correct with a quick twist on shaft and but.

{I, personally, would not call this a problem area for me.}
