Unique Bumpers

A friction fit would be cool.

The O-ring could form the actual edge of the butt cap. That would be great protection, in some ways better than a traditional bumper. Just make enough of a lip to stretch a nice fat O-ring onto so that it protects both the side and the bottom. I realize that isn't what you went for on that example, but a future version could be like I am saying. A little glue could be used to keep it from rolling off the lip but it wouldn't be holding it on per se. A really fat O-ring would be cool I think.

Very cool, very creative.

That's funny that you would suggest that because I actually have another size on-hand just to do that! I only had the time to do my first intention but was prepared to do the other soon... now I'll have to. Give me a couple days and I'll shoot a couple of pics over.

Now you have me excited. :D

You never know when you might hit cutting edge in design...you just did.

That's why I made this thread...even the lowly bumper can be exciting.

Understated classic black bumper. Not obtrusive, nice and rounded.

Thanks for posting!

EDIT: Darn nice cue too!

Ok, so I quickly made a small tenon and slipped the larger o-ring on. The OD is very close to the OD of the butt cap yet provides protection even if the cue is at 45 degrees; the tenon is just short of the thickness of the o-ring. It was a fair idea but I think it looks like crap. The first attempt by inlaying the o-ring looks better and more conventional.

AGREED, THE FIRST ONE LOOKS BETTER.

MAYBE A COMBO OF THE TENON TO MAKE IT MORE SECURE, AND THE INLY TO MAKE IT LOOK BETTER.

I'D SUGGEST A BOLT, WITH A BEVELED HEAD JUST WIDER THAN THE ID OF THE O-RING. THAT WAY THE BOLT CAN RECESS INSIDE THE BUMPER, BUT STILL HOLD THE RING IN PLACE.

How about combining the two designs?

Take the idea of the second one and simply recess it higher up, tuck it up into the edge of the butt cap to make a smoother transition and make it less obtrussive in profile. You keep the edge protection and lose the unsightly profile.

Just a thought.

Then either a nice polished bolt on the end like in so many bumperless designs, or perhaps a nice end cap turned from the material of choice with your logo engraved? It could be a phenolic or perhaps a Juma or something. Just a disc either with a small recessed screw in the middle to hold it or some kind of interference fit.

I agree the second one does not look as nice, but it could be improved on and simply recessed further up.

Any more?

Come on guys cough up the cool, the strange, the one-off, the antique....anything different. :):)

Very cool!

LOL!

A Limbsaver! I have to say that took me off guard, I didn't even think of it...but it does qualify I would guess. :)

OK guys.... Here is a treasure. A 1975 McDermott MR-2 "A Series". The only cue I know of made with a green bumper.

Better pics of the cue will be posted today or this weekend when I get time. The cue is straight and darned near pristine. You can see a little finish loss on the butt cap but that is the extent of it. I can't find any dents on the cue. For now, I thought the bumper qualified it for this thread.
