Universal Billiards (Dallas) I Learned My Lesson

I was in a rush and could not my tips replaced by a reputable person so I took them to universal billiards. I have had two shafts basically ruined by simply getting a tip replaced. Not only were the tips dry to the point of being able to tear them, the "wizard" on the lathe took about a mm off the shaft as well.

I am p1ssed but I also blame myself because I didn't know anything about this guy. Apparently he is learning.

So just a warning, stay away from Universal Billiards if you want to avoid having your equipment ruined and if you want to avoid over paying for any product.

eeeek:eek:

what kind of tips did you request ?

what did you get?

how much for this service?

AHEM!! (cough, cough)

And who was it that fixed it for you?!

HMMMM?!?!?

I requested Everest tips (my favorite) and got Talisman tips. The cost was $12 for the tip and $15 or $20 for work. Way overpriced but I was rushing the process.

Fortunately jcurry corrected the problem of the tip but it's impossible to fix a skinny shaft.

Thanks :grin-square:

So, he took a mm off of an OB-2 shaft? ... you're gonna be playing with a dart

HAHA, no, it was his 5280 that he keeps here at work. We have a 7' table in the cafe.

Justin, don't you play in the Plano APA? I think I've seen you posting on those forums as well.

Oh, that's good he didn't do that to an OB-2

Yeah, appearantly.. I have enough time to goof around at work and mess with these forums

(if you see me and my girlfriend out and about.. don't mention the other post on AZ... no need to make things worse )

BTW, around here...I've had Ben Tubbs do my tip work... he's done a good job on my stuff.

Is Ben the guy who does cue work with Jerry Yang?

edit:
I didn't even notice that was your thread until you mentioned it.

Here's the scene.... "Hey Justin, is that the pool hating b17ch you told everyone about?"

HAHAHA. Nah dude, I would never do that.

There is just too much opportunity here

Sorry about your cue Dan....it's been my experience that it's better to shoot with a house cue than to go to one of those places....Ben has been recommended to me as well.....there are also a few peeps that do it on the side, just gotta ask around.....

Give Don Wallace a try in Arlington. He's about a mile from 360 off of Park Row. He does everything from tips to full customs. Highly regarded by those who have had work done. I have a custom by him that even Mike Massey was amazed at. PM me if you want his number. He's a machinist by trade, and does this on the side since he enjoys it so much.

There is no way a person I don't know will touch my OB shafts, I take very good care of those :)

Lesson learned

Same thing happened to me. I was short on time and took it to a well known guy in the DFW that does cue repair and he put a couple of dents in my shaft from overtightning of the lathe he used. Since then I have retipped my own cues.

Ditto here. I got burned by Universal Billiards once before and they almost completely ruined my Schon shaft. Since then I have purchased a few and built my own tools for re-tipping. I can trim and finish a tip as clean as anyone with a lathe. Just ask my latest happy customer, NewStroke.
