This doesn't look like a Palmer to me.

Maybe it's the camera angle or something.

can you post a picture of one of the points straight on, and the bumper from an end and side view. I think it would help. also a shot of the weight bolt can help id. a cue.

Looks Helmstetter

The brass pin usually says old stuff. Ask Tate!

So where is your friends house

not a Palmer<rounded pin>
not Gus points

looks like a cheap 80s - 90s Taiwan import reworked
to look more USA custom-ish - there were dozens of guys
doing that 10 - 15 years ago, one of them posts here

Sorry

i would strongly disagree that it was made in Taiwan, i don't know where you get your info.

The guy who told me that they are GUS points and would bet his house that its a palmer, has seen more of gus and spain points than most people.

His name is JIMMY INGRAM from Oklahoma

If it was a Gus wouldn't the points be longer and have one black veneer be double? looks reworked like some one said.

Hi Chris,

I just found this thread but did receive your e-mail from my web site first.

This cue has some similarities to the Palmers being made from about 1977 though the 1980's, but I'm pretty certain it's not a Palmer.

The design features and parts used aren't consistent with Palmers, although the forearm looks like the same one used on a few models. The forearm resembles the ebony on ebony blanks used for a number of the Palmer cues starting in the mid to late 1970's. These blanks were made by Adam Japan, as well as a company known as KPS from Taiwan (aka Falcon Cues).

Starting in the mid 1970's, Palmer and many other makers could not find a reliable source for producing quality blanks in large quantities once Brunswick stopped making their own cues, so they sought sources that could mass produce quality points. Gus Szamboti supplied Palmer with blanks for their premium, top of the line and special custom cues. Most of these had colored veneers, but Gus did not produce the kind of quantities Palmer needed,

Here's a page that I put together to help people identify the blanks used in many Palmers:

http://www.palmercollector.com/forearms.html

I think you can see the Szamboti points are pretty distinctive. While it's not "impossible" that Szamboti made the forearm on this cue, it's not very likely.

If I had to guess, I would agree with PDCue - 1980's cue based on an imported forearm. The Delrin buttcap and style makes me think it's a custom of some sort.
