Ok so you are playing in a 9ball barbox tournament, this roughly is what your opponent is left after you play safe. You are down 6-5 in a race to 7. Would you call a judge to watch the hit? Around 30 people are watching.

During the match it never crossed my mind to call one, next time I will. The guy tried to kick down the rail and hit the 8 thin and then hit the 3, CLEAR FOUL, the 8 had enough speed to bounce off the rail. I move to pick up the cue ball and he stops me, "you didn't call a judge." I say you have to be _ _ _ _ _ _ _ kidding me. He says, "they did that to me earlier" as if it was justified. So he admitted to the foul, people 25 feet away said it was obviously a foul. I was hooked, kicked, left him out, the crowd was silent. First time I did not shake hands after a match. This was a pretty big tournament it was about $1500 difference between 3rd and 1st. I am a non violent person and this was the first time I actually considered punching a person in the face. :mad: Lesson learned I guess, when in doubt, pull o.....call a judge. Eh Im over it. :D

I really hope he does that to the wrong guy one day. This is just poor sportsmanship.
 
How is that legal, judge or not? If it's an obvious foul you shouldn't need a judge. Any tournament I've ever played in we only call a judge (or neutral party) to watch the hit on a close call, nothing that was obvious. After his foul, why did you kick at the ball? Why didn't you just foul and hook him behind a ball? Then tell him the same thing he told you, no judge, no foul.
 
That goes beyond poor sportsmanship. I'm pissed off just reading about it!

He said it wasn't a foul, "You didn't call a judge" he indirectly admitted to it by saying that it was done to him earlier in the tournament. Since it was a thin hit on the 8 and he hit it at a good speed it looked fairly close but there was no way the 8 should have moved much less bounce off the rail and the 8 ball visibly moved before contact with the 3. I didn't think about just rolling the ball behind another until after this was over I was just in disbelief. After it was over the ref said there was nothing I could have done.............

If this is what pool is today I'm glad I can't play anymore. I would be in jail and on the 11 o'clock news for sure. Johnnyt
 
I don?t want to come off like a Fast Larry here but I just see too much of this BS happening to players on here. What was this guy some big monster or the bar room bully? Where I came from this sort of thing never happened, in fact in 50+ years playing in poolrooms and bars all over the country I haven?t seen some of the stuff that people in here say was pulled on them.

I?m not a big guy but the few that know me on here know that that guy would be picking himself up off the floor...maybe. If we danced, he better kill me. THERE I feel better now...thank you. Johnnyt
 
That's ridiculous. No, nobody would ever call a ref for that hit! Also, if he told me "this was done to me" I would insist on hearing it from the TD's mouth.

I seem to remember that if a referee is watching, he may ask anyone who saw the shot for their input. What about if there is no ref, but you call the TD afterwards. Can the TD accept input from anyone as well--if he chooses--before making a decision? If he can, then you probably would have gotten BIH.

I agree with PKM, I'm pissed as well.

B/S Eric! The judge is wrong, and you had 25 witnesses! I would have *****ed about it all day with the cueball in my hand until the judge ruled in my favor. That is just wrong that this guy wants to be a wuss about crap like that. You should have given him two more fouls to make him loose with the 3 foul rule. I would have been a total jerk the rest of the match. Who cares what someone else did to him, two wrongs don't make a right, and you aren't even the one that did that to him in the first place! I would have wanted to punch him too, and I probably wouldn't have shook his hand either. You shouldn't worry about it too much, but it does suck that it happens. If you call a judge the next time you and I play I will make a big deal about it! LOL J/K man I will understand after having to play such a poor sport! I hope that you did well in the tourny after that, but it probably messed you up mentally.
 
Hey Eric. I safed a guy last night in the viking tournament and he got his jump cue out and jumped over the 3 ball and hit the ball moving it at least 4 inches and still made the 1 ball and said it was a good hit. I said theres no way thats a good hit. he said it was clean just he hit the ball he jumped over with his cue.

I didn't care. It was an obvious foul so I just took the cue ball and ran out the rack. He was pissed off for a bit.. then next game he started to shoot on the other table while I was shooting. Where I come from thats an automatic forfeit of the game. I brought this to his attention and he wasnt too happy about that either and went and asked Mike and apparently it was a foul though. SO I could've taken ball in hand, but I said no just I would appreciate it if you didnt do it again. He got a little nicer after that and things went smoothly.

I wasnt going to just let him keep shooting since he proclaimed the jump was a good hit when it obviously wasnt. I guess you're nicer than I but I wouldnt have tolerated it in the least.
 
I heard this one time: "Next time you try to rob somebody remember to bring a gun."

The guy who said it then laughed, picked up the cue ball, took his ball-in-hand turn and ran out.

I had a guy try to call a foul on me one time because I had the marker touching a very small fraction of the felt on the rail. He said that someone had called him for it earlier.
 
You missed out on a REALLY good opportunity to get back at him, and have a great story for years to come...

After he said "you didn't call a judge"... you should go "so you mean to tell me if I picked up the cue-ball right now, that would be a foul?" and when he says yes you go over, and pick it up, and say "well, it might be a foul, but you didn't call a judge"... and just run out all over his face.
 
Tell everyone you know about the guy

That way, they will know what to expect. A judge is only required in what would be a close hit situation. With 25-30 witnesses, you should never have let him get away with it. It is the same as theft. Like someone else said, there is just too much of this crap going on.

In tournaments in my area, no way would it have happened. With witnesses watching the championship match, judge or no judge, that would not have happened. First, the TD would not have allowed it. Secondly, in the absence of a TD available, a cue stick between the eyes would have stopped it.
 
I love this type of BS. Besides pretty much asking for an "escort" to his car he opens the door for you to screw him. Here is the fun part...you simply need him to admit to the foul. When a guy like that says no judge no foul, and gives you the story, just work it so he admits to the foul and take ball in hand. For example, "So someone fouled against you earlier in the tournament and that makes it ok for you to foul and against me and without a judge it makes things even?". When he says yes he has just admitted to the foul. The 25 fans watching will kill themselves laughing when he has to call a ref and explain why he is calling the foul as you take ball in hand. Give it a try.

PS: I am in sales. I love this stuff. Makes them look like not only a cheat, but a stupid one.

i agree, christ a foul is a foul, dosent matter who sees it, a judge is there for close hits. not to make a shot a foul or good. I would have smashed him he needs a lession.
 
I agree this kind of stuff is happening much too much.

Last year at the BCA Masters in Vegas I was in a match playing with a young guy named Jason Kla.., it was a tight match near the end and he was on the eight ball. There was only a possable bank shot on it with the difficultly of trying to get the cue ball out of the way.

He was studying the shot very intently, he was getting up and down quite a few times trying to figure out how to play the bank. It's a difficult shot and I knew it required a bit of studying.

I'm waiting for him to decide and call the bank. Then all of a sudden without calling anything he gets down and in a matter of about a half second he fires the cue ball into one of my balls and billiards in the eight ball. Bad hit! I couldn't believe he did that. He says I should have called the referee. Believe me, years back I would have decked him. Instead I turned around to whom I believed was his mother. I told her that if she was his mother and if she knew what he did that she would be embarrassed to have him as her son.

I turned to him and said what kind of person are you to do something like this and especially in front of your mother. Plus I also called him a couple of other names. Ten to fifthteen people were witness to this. I had to restrain my nephew from teaching this guy a lesson. Is self respect gone?
 
I would have taken ball in hand.What do you think would have happened if you picked up the cue ball?

Another option would have been to make a bad hit and hook him....after all,no judge,no foul right?

I might have kicked his cheating arse on the spot.
 
Agreed man that is some BS right there, and the sickest part of it is that you let him get over on you with it. It 9 ball, fouls happen, you cant call a judge eveytime, that wasnt even a questionable call, No way he gets that crap over on me, or you if I was there to watch it happen.
Now I am mad and getting madder the more I think about it.
