I had never seen this way of marking the balls before. Do you know of any other remarkable "tools of the trade"?

Reminds me of the mini wooden bowling pins old men (in the 50s room where I grew up) used to play cribbage (?) on the carom table.

I don't mean ball markers, necessarily.

But related to which, the image is unusual because the standard way of marking balls at carom is to mark the shadows on the cloth with a tailor's/dressmaker's chalk pencil, so a marker never touches the ball. Those "markers" appear to be one kilogram weights as used for balance weighing.

I used to own this model table:

That thing on top is a quick rack system. Not sure how popular they ever were, but I had never seen or heard of one. Made racking a lot faster though. Whish my diamond had something similar.

Here is someone using a laser clamped to their stick. There was a commercial product about 1995 called the "Laser Shark" that was similar but the laser had a lens that produced a fan-shaped vertical beam. That could let you see any cue twisting during the shot, as well as detecting any swerving. Putting that much weight on the top of your stick makes it really unstable.
