Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Oh and Demi is giving Archer a fit...Lil Keith wins again... and Beau Runningen is about to take off Mika...theres nothing better going on than the US Open!

Good for Demitrius. He seemed like a real decent guy.

He was decent and coincidentally don't think anyone wanted to play with him either. Also the only guy to toss me a jelly on a ring game...Both times I've been around him he's been top notch.

Demi is a poster boy for pool. Clean cut, treats the game as a sport, doesnt get out of hand when he wins or loses and always is trying to get better. He is down 8-7 to JA right now. Win or lose hell of a tourney.

He reminds me a lot of Ginky...I don't know if his game is topped out or not but he certainly is a hell of a player.

Basically they just went, ok you give people 10-6. You play 9-7 and so on.

I have said for a couple years it would be nice to set something up. Sadly it takes added money from somewhere. Big Dog's dont like adding large sums of money. Like the $1,000 they added and Athens got 92 people there for a tournament. Marc was yelling at Athens telling him they were losing money. -- if you didn't notice that was the last large tournament in DSM.
I am firm believer that Des Moines needs to have a tourney that covers all the games that are being played out there. There is no reason that their shouldn't be a tourney here kinda like what they have in Olathe or The Derby City. Obviously it wouldn't start out as big as them, but if it's ran right this tourney would draw more and more players every time we had it. The amount of money added would be a problem, considering what has happened in the past. If the ISPA, BCA, Valley, APA, and other league operators are interested in promoting the game of pool, then I would think they would want to have a part in sponsoring this kind of tourney. I know it would be tough to get them all to agree or work together on this, but it would go a long ways toward benefiting pool in the state of Iowa and in Des Moines. The pool rooms throughout the region could also play a sponsorship role in this. It would be like paying for advertising. Also, doing online streaming of this event would be beneficial. TAR would be one way of really pumping up the publicity on this kind of an event. There might be some individuals out there, who are pretty well off, that would like to get involved in a sponsorship role as well. Also, getting Diamond in on this would be the way to go. The tourney could be held at the fair grounds, a convention center, one of the casinos, or any other place big enough for this kind of event. A casino would be good because they could add some money.

Why couldn't something like this take off and be one of the best tourneys in the country? All we need are people who want to promote this game!! Is it possible to get everyone to work together to get something like this started? I know it would almost be impossible, but wouldn't it be a great thing for pool in Iowa and beyond?!!

In a nutshell, the answer is NO...to every single question you asked. I could write a 100 reasons down on why but no need. Our town is best suited for league and weekly tourneys. Minimal risk for the business, stay in our bubble and we're content. It's a bar table town. Not enough people that would want to see something succeed. In fact people will rather you fail if you stick your neck out.

I'm 1 out of probably 50 people with the means to be able to throw a tourney, but I'd rather piss in the wind. End of the day aint worth the hassle. Rather bowl a 112.

LOL, negative. I have plans for tonight. He can keep dreaming and prepare to give me the 6.

TBO, I am not a huge fan of those cases. They look too nice, like they should be looked at and not used and are expensive.I like the ruggedness of the tooled Instroke cases. Even after they are beat up, they still look good. Now if I can just get myself to take mine out of the house!!! :duck:

As for giving you the 6, you're just being silly! :slap:

Jon, it could happen. Mikey is just being pesimistic. OPTImistic = open your eyes and allow the light to come in!

I would say that in order for a large(125+) turnout in Des Moines, handicapping might be the ticket to draw the regular Joe-pool-player in.

I think one way to handicap it would be to do it with the entry fees. Examples being, Elite/Master=$75, AA/A=$50, B/C=$25. There are a lot of guys out there that could get this together like Frost, Athens, Mike Fieldhammer from MN(who put on the Shooting Star Classic), John Stich from MN(who is putting on the tourney at Treasure Island in MN), and many more. I know this is possible!!

Brad I'm a realist...which means from time to time I'm gonna say some real shit. So for real you got a better chance of growing boobs tomorrow than a big tourney being successful here. You need the intangibles. We don't have the intangibles. Before you ask me what the intangibles are please go to dictionary.com and look up the definition of the word broham.

It's cold, I'm soaked...and Earl and Lil Keith lost when they both normally would win those matches. I know Charlie Williams and Stevie Moore are champs, I'm just sayin!

Ok guys, I have obviously had some time to think about what kind of tourney would be good for this town:) I hope that people can put aside their differences, whether it's league operators, or personal, and just work to benefit pool. This kind of tourney would do just that. We haven't had a monster tourney in this town forever, and it's about time we did.

Can I get some positive feedback on this please. I'm just throwing ideas out there to get something started. So, let's hear some ideas!

Mike, I know you have some ideas to get something like this going. Why so negative??

im just kind of sour on the pool scene here. ill support whatever is out there. its just that most of the good guys arent great players and the great players arent very good guys. i had something worked out to the last detail but decided i'd rather rake leaves then run a tourney. thats a fact.
