Did anyone play in the new Sat night 10-ball at Styx this week? Just wondering how many players they got and how smoothly it went. I'm hoping to play in either the Friday night tourney at BD's or this new one at Styx this week. I think the wife owes me a tourney night after a weekend of her class reunion stuff!

I went and hardly remember a thing. It was cool though. 10-Ball on those valleys was fun, a lot of people were getting out. Of course I lost to two Asian guys, Pet and Jimmy. Jimmy stopped me from cashing I think, like I said I hardly remember a thing. I was lit up as were the vast majority of people there.

P.S. Pun is still in town and Jess is coming through today too. Don't know what's lined up for pool...I think Pun and Jimmy are playing some one hole. If no one else plays Jess I might just get a big ass spot and try him some.

10 ball turn out

TURN OUT: 18 players; paid 1st $85, 2nd $65, 3rd $45 and 4th $21 ; Tourney didn't start play until 7:15- 7:30. It was over with at 12:30.

FEEDBACK: Seems pretty good overall. Played it like big dogs, but some liked rack your own, some didn't. Here are the changes going forward:
* Non Master women players will be spotted 1 game (This will either be by notability, BCA/Valley Rankings or APA players 5 & Under. I will be the final decision maker on this.)
* The woman who makes it the farthest and not in the money, will be refunded their entry fee.
* Alternate breaks. Should two players lose track of the breaking order and cannot agree, then a re-lip will decided who breaks next.
* Rack your opponents. If two matched players decided on their own to change it to rack your own, then that's fine.

RESULTS: Winners who chopped are Pet, Troy, Jimmy and Anthony. Pet took guaranteed 2nd and left early. Then it went Troy and Anthony. Jimmy placing 4th.

For the future, if someone is in a guaranteed money spot and wants to leave early there will not be a "chop" of the funds. The will only receive winnings they are guaranteed. If they want to work something out personally with the other player, that’s on them and not the "tournaments" responsibility. After alcohol, there is always someone who says they didn't agree. So again going forward, I will not allow any "Pre-Chopping".

If the turn out stays consistent, it's possible to have STIX add more money to the pot. Im feeling positive this tourney will stay consistent. It pays really well for a Saturday night!

--- SMOKERS ---- Being a smoker myself (pre pregoness) I am asking all of you to be mindful your smoking time so that this is not an issue. Should the tourney get to 32 players, this could create a big problem.

-- Mike F -- As you said before, STIX does not put WATER in their liquor. ;) Glad you had a nice time. Seems everyone was off to a good drink start from playing at Ankeny and then just con't it at WH STIX. I really enjoyed the turn out and hope this saturday is better!

Thanks to everyone who played!

Just a note to everyone. I am also a no chopper at this point in any tourney. The last 3 times I came to des moines people wanted to chop because they had other things to do. Well go do it without the chop. You cant pay an entry fee, eat, drive to des moines from grinnell, pay table time, chop and come out ahead. Dont try to make me feel guilty, it wont work. I wont chop anymore.

If people want to chop let them chop. If you don't want to and you are in the finals, then no chop. Easy solution.

Edit when I say chop I mean top 2, not someone winning the winners bracket and leaving early. If Worm wants no chop, no bigge, I don't mind playing for it.

I've asked to chop before, ususally because it's wayyyyy toooooo late on a "school" night and I need to get up early. But im totally ok with not chopping and just taking the place i earned. The only thing I can see someone saying on a Saturday is that they have to go to church or something, in which case, we have wine at the bar & you can Confess to your bartender... :D

I just hope I can play better next time. Bean is starting to be a handicap on some shots!

I'm going to keep practicing so I can play you some more Troy.

I got 11-6 from Phil and lost once and broke even the second time. I lost everytime getting the Hit and Pick 3 from Jody and lost lots of times getting 11-6/11-5 from Jody, the last time though I did beat him pretty good. Justin plays me even one handed and I win, he gave me 9-6 and I lost by a set. Mikey Henderson gives me 10-6/9-6 and I am down 4 games at that game. Shannon gives me 9-7 and I have lost, won, and broke even with him. Pet gave me 10-6 and I beat him. Steve Grant plays me even and I have won and lost like that. Ray gave me 9-8 and 10-8 I believe maybe it was 9-7 and I have won and lost at that game too.

Troy you gave me 10-6 and I beat you pretty good like that, we switched to 9-6 and how many games loser was I? Lost it all back except two games if I remember correctly. How does this all compute to 9-7 being the fair game between us now? Also you gave me the 8 playing 10-Ball, we have played that game at least 3 or 4 times...how many games winner am I? I'll help you its somewhere around 7 games. You had me stuck 10 games at one point also playing like that. How is this also no longer a fair game?

If you wanna be a nut hunter go ahead. If you feel like I am trying to rob go ahead and think that all day long. I wanted to gamble on Saturday and you wanted to steal, that's why we didn't play.

Now I'd like 10-6 in one hole and the Wild 7 in ten ball and I'll play you some.

The gap between 1st and 2nd is only $20 so giving up $10 isn't the end of the world. Now if somebody wants to play for it I am all for it. If I have to leave early after winning the winners bracket then I get 2nd, no chop. I am glad you had a nice turnout. I hopefully can come to one, just can't this Saturday since it is my bday.

Sounds like a happy dappy tournament. A good tournament director makes all the difference in making things run smoothly. Sounds like "Worm" will join that distinguished group.

No preference on the chop - exept 'pre-chop'. You get what you earned.

Sitting in the hot seat and want to leave?? Take second and bail is fine with me.

I usually never have to worry about it much...

Another tournament to add to the 'i wish I could make it" list.

Everyone on earth, I mean the entire planet just laughed at that first line. I've never made it to 7 in my life playing one pocket. I could get 9-7 from Jason Richardson and he plays pool exactly 4 times a year. Hell Tom Mellon can give me 9-7 and play. Big Pun gave me 9-6 and I was lucky to only lose table time in Olathe. When I played Joey Gray I got 11-4 and yes I was a one game winner after 4 hours because I was stealing. No thanks for that offer Troy. I'd like to keep playing the game I am losing at though.

As far as that 10-Ball game goes I'm up a whole 7 games. We have played that game 3 or 4 times. Am I supposed to adusti when max I am a 2 game winner per session? You don't have to answer everyone knows the answer already.

I'll just take it all as a compliment and thank you for noticing I am improving.

If you don't want people to chop you have got to make the difference worth playing for. If 1st was $90 and second was $50 people will play it out. I also think double dipping is an old practice. One extended race finals also makes it more interesting. Race to 8 one set for the finals I also think reduces your chance of chopping occuring. Most people only chop because they don't think they can double dip the winner of the hot seat, off the top of my head I can't think of any pro tourneys that you have to double dip someone. US Open 10 ball was one race to 13 for the big check. Just something to consider.

I (myself) don't have to make the difference in pay. I don't plan on making the tourney top heavy. The tourney pays the top 25% which in this case was the top 4 spots - Paid 40%, 30%, 20%, 10%.

I am fixing the chop by saying I will not allow it. If the players want to, then fine. But someone is going to have to come to me and say, worm i got 2nd. And then i will give them 2nd place money. IF they turn around and share it with 3rd - then i don't care. But I am not doing that for them like I did this past Saturday. Players are adults and can do that themselves, right?

Double dipping IS an extended race from the loser's side - think about it!

Double dipping IS an extended race from the loser's side - think about it!

So you are not really against chopping you just don't want the headache of people saying I agree or disagree. That's totally different. Here's one of the problems with 2 sets. The guy from the losers wins the first set. Now whoever wins the second set, wins the tourney. Losers side races are often shorter than winners side races. Ask yourself, would you rather race to 4 alternate break for the win or would you want to chop?

If you do the heart test from there people will just chop. At the end of the night the pool nuts would watch a good final set. So if it's about you don't personally want to be responsible for a chop that's cool I get that. If you don't want people to chop in general though that's a proven way to get that done. Greed will kick in if the money is different and you got a good race that will determine who deserves it more.

Alas, I have packed my cue and it is now bound for Washington so no more playing for me. (this post was longer, but I decided not to give into temptation)

I played 5 tuesday 8ball (race to 1) tourneys here, and that was about it.

I told Veronica that cause some days I just didnt wanna talk. ;)

If this was "Night at the Museum" I would be Ben Stiller, and you would be the Giant Rock. Dum Dum

To Quote Richardson after we got back from Davenport "you can't beat him (you) even."
