Update on the Des Moines pool scene

still no A/C

I heard there was less then 20 player at Big Dogs for the Sunday night 9 ball. With this heat I can't believe they think people will play in a place without A/C. Oh well I guess summer's almost over so maybe it will pick up come sept.

but they still won't do anything about the A/C between now and next summer so the same complaints will arise about June next year.

So...Here is my most recent tale on PS... FL Omaha hi/lo...AA23 A3h A2c...Table playing somewhat loose usually 2bets preflop...this hand gets capped with 4 going to the flop. I flop the near mortal nuts 2 4 5 all hearts..thats right bottom straight flush and the nut low...to my happy surprise it gets capped again. Turn comes an A goes to 3 bets this time. and the river comes 8h. Caps on the river with everyone still in the hand and the cards are shown. I wont go into details but lets say my SF was no good for high as someone had 67h and to top it off, 3 of us chopped the low! Neadless to say I lost huge and ended up logging off before I went into Frost (go off) mode. FFS

I have had that happen before multiple times losing with the chop on low when I don't win high. Sometimes it seems with 3-4 people staying in the pot till the end it isn't worth it to max bet it with the possible chop on low with not having high.

yeah man, it was completely fubar'd. I know how it all happend but was shocked when the hands were shown. I knew any other flush was no good obviously. After the turn though I suspected I would be chopping low at least 1 way, but fully expected to take down the high. the odds of 67h against me were slim/none which I why it was capped on the river.. still in shock thinking about it lol

I don't know if I can beat Jason Chance getting the 7-ball in ten ball, maybe I'll get the 6 next time. I was 3 game loser the other way. In DSM 3 game loser is grounds for adjusting.

The Big Dogs AC issue is almost resolved. They are getting a brand new unit. It is supposed to be installed in the next couple of weeks.

I am assuming you mean they are just getting new compressors not a new unit.

No. From what I understand they are buying a whole new unit but I could be wrong.

I'd be willing to bet a beer you are wrong brotha . He called me looking for a price on a used compressor awhile back. I highly doubt if he is trying to sell the place that he is going to spend the money on a whole new unit. They are a little pricier then what you may think for a big rooftop unit (we sell them).

Old unit was "struck by lightning" so they are getting a new one based on that. There's some clarity on it for you guys.

Actually I'm just talking out of my ass most of the time and I really don't know the situation. I was talking to Randy last time he was in town. I'm not sure from whom he ordered. I had just heard that it was a whole new unit. I also heard the same thing you said about it being undersized.

This is the first I've heard about him wanting to sell the place. Is this actually happening or just speculation? Timeframe?

Also, slightly off topic, but I had heard a while back that there was a new place opening out in West Des Moines (?) but haven't seen any updates on it.

Rex and Bob I believe are reopening Big Shots calling it Felt from what I have heard. I hope this is the case as this is close to where I live and I will frequent there if they do open up if it is ran better than Big Shots.

As for the beer, remind me when I see you. It is my fault for not clarifying new unit as correctly sized new unit...

Bummed to hear this. Was looking for a pool hall other then Stix to play at in WDM. If anyone is thinking of opening up a new place and needs consultation on it let me know. My senior year in college in a business class myself and a few other people put together a business plan for a guy who was looking to buy a property and start a business there, and we had to come up with two ideas. Our group did a dance club (Maryville party school), as well as a pool hall (Matt's idea) so I have a good feel on everything involved and my services are for sale....and yes I have a business degree .

Apparently, regarding the never opened Felt, the fallout was a result of the property owner's reluctance to lease to a business plan encompassing another pool hall. Very unfortunate considering Rex's business and culinary acumen was still resisted. Of all the homework and research he put into the place, not knowing the owner hated pool was the gauntlet. Now that's a bad roll.
