Update on the Des Moines pool scene

How did everybody's ISPA experience go this year?

I wish I could say I did better in the singles event, but the team "Walking the Talk" out of Iowa City made up of myself, Cody Mason, Todd White, David Gomez and Roger Harris took home a State Championship in the Men's Level 2 Team event.

So I guess you could say my experience was a good one!

I hope to be able to come see the new Big Dog's in Des Moines sometime...........maybe during ISPA there next year.

Good job Trevor. Now you'll have to move up a Division. Keep your head high and step up to the plate. Make the Masters your goal...not back in Level 2.

All of the guys on my team finished in the money in all the events they played in. One out of the money in the team event aint bad either...considering. I had a knock down-drag out battle with my biggest adversary, Mark Czerwinski from Moline, in the Seniors Division 8-ball, but came out on top. Now both of us have three State titles. It'll be a race to see which one of us gets #4 first. Of course, in that Division, any number of players can 'take it down' at any time. I've been 2 and out before so aint nobody runnin' away with nothing in that Division.

Congrats to all that were satisfied with thier own performance...that's more important that winning it all sometimes.

So....somebody accept the challenge and get this ball rolling.

L8R...Ken

Oh yeah, let me take this opportunity to ask you pool players from Des Moines and the surrounding area to make sure YOU do everything you possibly can to make next years ISPA Tournament in Des Moines the best it can be. That may be your only chance to keep it in Des Moines. We need players and teams to make up the difference in the players that won't go there. You know what I mean. If you have a friend from a different league...even out of the Des Moines area, recruit them to join our Association because the State Tournament is in Des Moines now...not across the state. It will soon be a true State Tournament that will be represented by the entire state. Let's 'gitt'r done'.

Ken

I wish I could say my performance at ISPA was stellar like yours Trevor.

I was one from the money in singles and team events, but no excuses, I played like .... the whole tournament but on the upside the beer was good and still had a good time.

Ken I can difinately say we will have a lot more teams from the Fort Dodge area competing next year in support of a ISPA.

Thanks, my wife and I may go up this weekend.

Be ready for lousy service....nothing's changed. You might want to eat and get you buzz on before you arrive.

I swear the money lost from having idiots behind that bar must be enormous.

All I've heard from players since they reopened is how lousy the service is. Lousy doesn't even cover it. There's got to be a better word. The stories are just incredible!

No offense Jeff, but posting on the internet won't fix that. If Paul A. is still in there I'd suggest telling him, he will get it corrected. Also a call to Marc and Randy would go a long way as well. Even when I pissed them off they made sure my glass was full. On normal nights and weekends Dogs usually had great service and if it's not up to your standards I'd bring it up to management, they will fix that.

For tournaments and large events there's always been a shortage of service there. I'd suggest making friends with the bartenders and servers in this situation, used to work for me. Also tipping as you go even with a tab goes a long way. Oh and be nice to them, that usually will get good results. They usually have pretty girls serving there, who doesn't like pretty girls?

I'm contemplating whether to hit the Submit Reply button......

I have to agree with you Jeff, there hasn't been the best of service ever there, and yes, it is all about the cliques. I was friends with one of the bartenders there before she joined the military and she was great to those she knew, the rest don't care about their work. This isn't uncommon in the service industry, they hire "cute" girls because they bring in men who will spend money, and the girls KNOW that they can treat customers like shit and no one will say a word because ... well as the one guy put it, they're cute what else could you want? i don't give a flying rats ass if she is cute ugly skinny or fat, you treat me like i am invisible or you have something more important to do OTHER than your job, you wont get my business. I've been to the new shop twice, sorry BD's but I'll stay at home and play on my own table and drink my own beer without having to put up with lazy people. IF i want that, I'll just go over and look in the mirror and tell the guy to go get a beer and then ignore myself for 15 minutes lol

The service was fine.

I never had a bit of trouble with the service there my last visit the ladies were very quick and polite and easy on the eyes. I have had trouble in the past at the old location getting served when one or two of the bartenders thought they were rock stars and it was below them to wait on us lowly patrons. Thankfully they are long gone. I think the new place is great and we are lucky to have it.
