What's up fellas? I will be in town this weekend, my daughter and son both have the softball/baseball state tourneys in Des Moines, but I don't know if I'll be able to stop by. With any luck I'll see you boys soon......

Come on by buddy, be good to see ya. You're always welcome when daddy is in the building. Come and knock the 10 ball tourney off, or come to my ring game next week...you can win good money in it.

I'm working with Shannon Daulton and his old lady Marge Cooper on the ring game right now. I'll share what we come up with later. He's shocked more than 12 people would even enter a ring game so we are definitely having a strong tourney guys. We should be proud of what we are doing in town and people will emulate what we do going forward. Will post more soon. Thanks.

Additional Ring Game Rules

OK here’s the deal with the ring game, I’ve listened to the criticisms and suggestions alike, I have to play tournament director and make final decisions. If this doesn’t work I will go back to the drawing board for sure. I’ve talked to some heavyweights in the industry and people that run tours, also some pros. There is a general theme that seems to be prevailing and we will try this at the next ring game.

First of all, there will be an announcement BEFORE the final games are played on each table that the ante and redraw will be taking place after the completion of that game. In other words no table will automatically stop because the timer for the round runs out. I’ve named this, the Justin Rule. It’s a good rule.

Now onto the redraws and table assignment stuff, please read this carefully and I will not be cryptic in the explanation. Rule is different depending on the number of entries into the ring game.

Anything greater than 18 players we will need 4 tables. If we need 4 tables the players will do a random draw in the beginning of the tournament to determine both their table assignment and shooter order. The highest card goes first and the lowest card goes last. Whenever the ante changes players at a given table will do a redraw for order only(not changing tables yet) with the winner of the last game automatically still breaking. All players will remain at their assigned table and play until either the field reaches 12 total or 2 people on any given table.

At this point we will record chip counts for accuracy sake. Then we will do a blind draw for table assignment and shooter’s order(All winners of last game will flip odd man out for the break and the top of the order, even if all 4 breakers end up at the same table). Now that we are down to two full tables the final table will begin when we reach 6 players, or any table gets down to 2 players. In other words if my table is slow and playing even we have to make it down to 4 players if the other table is down to 2 players and vice versa. We will not play each table down to 3 players and take the final 6 that way. If all the short stacks end up at the same table, then so be it, this is the consequence of random drawing(this is what DSM wants, not me I like a seeded approach at this point as a lot of top players do)

Once we are at the final table another redraw is done for order with the 2 breakers flipping for break and 1st shooter after the break. Order will always change through a redraw at every ante change(~30 mins). Once we reach the final 2 players, WE WILL NOT RACE FOR IT. We will keep doubling the ante every 30 mins. Sidenote after 4 hours of play the ante will be at 64 chips per game, someone will win like this trust me.

If we have greater than 12 players but not over 18 players we will use 3 tables and play at the same tables until we get to 12 players or any given table can stop when they reach 2 players. Then we will combine as above. If we only need 2 tables to start with then rules will start from where we combined to two tables as above.

Ante Schedule is as follows, 1 chip/game for the 1st hour, 2 chips/game for a half hour, the 3 chips/game for another half hour, then 4 chips per game for a half hour, then 8 chips/game for a half hour and it keeps doubling every half hour. Approximate tournament time should be around 5 hours including breaks.

About the breaks they will be 5 mins after each hour of play. If a player chooses to miss a game or turn they forfeit that game or turn and are responsible for paying whatever chips they owe. If you stay on break too long and miss a turn, that’s your fault…smoke faster next time.

Thanks guys and I’ll post this both places and see what you guys have to say about it.

Well I havent been posting on my winnings this weekend. I could but the action is still pretty good. All I can say is maybe I can make 2 balls in a row on the big table.

Now Mr. Scott Hargens however strolls up in Big Dogs with his freakin Sugartree cue, and Suede Nubuck and Leather Justis case(case and cue are pretty sporty) and quietly challenges the house, thats the way I saw it anyways. Naturally Jody gets in there and Scott reels him in and says ok Barbox 8 Ball. They play, don't wanna disclose the dollar amount but lets just say someone didnt eat at McDonalds when it was over. Like Brand Nubian said "Punks step up to get beat down" sorry that has no relevance but adds to my linguistic swagger. Sooooo they play and play and when its all said and done Scott finished 10 games ahead. thats pretty damn good.

Pet played Marc O. some on the big table. Marc O. kicked his butt.

Ummm was a fun night though all in all. I was in super form and pretty drunk but damnit I played great.

Marc plays pretty good, amazing Jon/Marc didnt try Scott some, wtf is going on up there? Ive been missing out on alot i guess, but hey my swimming pool is awesome :) :) :)

Sorry Mikey please you with his post......you are correct sir in assuming we were playing $20 a game. Just to make things clear I was in town for my son and daughters state tournaments, I came to the pool hall to play the 10-ball tourney and wasn't really looking for any all-night action. Well then I started hittting them around with Jody and he asked me if I was looking for a game, I said we could play some by the game 8-ball on the bar box since the tourney was gonna start in about an hour. I was 2 games up when the tourney started, I got knocked out early and we continued playing after Jody won the tourney. So 1:30 rolls around and I have to get up at 6:30am for a day of baseball/softball games and I'm up 7 games so I ask Jody if we can set a time or something to end this. We decide to play 5 more games......I get up 10 and the man pays me, we shake hands and agreed to play again. Only next time were gonna play on a Diamond. So hopefully that pretty much covers everything....If John or Marc wanna play some Valley table 8 ball we can get in the box. I'm sure you'll let me know!

Like I told you, I like your style, we have a great understanding. It'll be profitable one day. I told one of my buddies about that Vegas story and he laughed his head off...he hates that guy every since his team won APA masters in Vegas over his team. It was great

So how did Jody/Phil end up versus Oely/Jon Brown playin Scotch Doubles 9 Ball????

I also started a new thread in the main forum for the ring game going off Saturday 6/27. It has everything you want to know and more in it.

I appreciate all the support and help trying to form a game the players like. The rules are not final, I look forward to having Jason, Justin, Matt, Mike B., Brad, Jon Brown, and all the other guys who actually log into cyber space review and critique and help me fine tune the rules a bit before the tourney. Look at this as a week long players meeting. I specifically am unsure if the payouts are what people are looking for...Let me know trying to include about the top 33% of the field was my goal...probably poorly implemented though :-(
