Update on the Des Moines pool scene

After finding out just what kind of loose people I'd be meeting, I hopped on a return flight. Good luck with all that betting money and stuff.

An' the next thing ya know,
Your son is playin' for money
In a pinch-back suit.

Right here in River City.
Trouble with a capital "T"
And that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool!

Got banned due to Jason thinking I would insult him to death if he wins two in a row. He throws all the cheap shots not me, i talk about pool thats it.

Just send some money up with someone else to bet on the side. You might just find that a lot of people in there want to bet against John.

Another good night for Jason!

So, I have to offer my congrats to Jason for another win in the box! All this action has gotten Jason fired up about playin pool again. It's really good to see!!

I tried to talk to Mike "Frost" Farley tonight, but all he could do was tell me that we aren't friends right now, for some reason. I don't understand this guy at all! He thinks that people are choppin him up, and he get's into it with Jason, who is one of the most honest, straight up guys in the pool scene. What is really goin on? I don't think Mike really has a reason to be upset with anyone here. Iowa is alot different than Jersey or the carolina's, or wherever he is from. We have good, honest, hard working, and intelligent people here. There aren't a lot of suckers here, not to say that there are any anywhere else. I just don't get how Mike has so many issues with people here. There is a way to stir up action but at the same time having respect for everyone. He has only been in town two months, and he has stirred up a lot of action. I think he has also made some people mad with his tactics. No matter what you accomplish, you only get respect by earning it. Around here I think you need to put in your time before you get that respect from people. I will never claim that I have everyone's respect, because I am far from perfect. I have made mistakes and will make mistakes, but I truely want the best for this place and everyone in it.

Like I said, I tried tonight to talk to Mike tonight, but he wouldn't talk to me at all. Honestly, I think Mike is upset with me because I wouldn't give him free pool time. He expected that I should give him all these perks because he brings all the people to the pool hall. I can't do that like the other place he talked about, because it's not my place to do that. If anyone has been here, they know that one guy doesn't make this place. I don't make this place what it is. It's the players that make this place what it is. Each person that comes in here is just a small part of what makes this place great! I love this pool hall and everything that goes along with it. This place has character and characters. Gotta love it!!

I have told Mike a few times that I appreciate the fact that he has stirred up the pool scene in Des Moines. It's just good for everyone!

As far as the best player in town goes, I think we should have a playoff to see who is. Marc had a great idea there. We should set something up for July when we have the action match. If all the top players in town are up for it, we will definately set this up for that week. Should be a lot of good pool played by all that week!!

I better stop before I end up writing a book:)

Neither jason nor john played very sporty imo. I've never seen John play before, but maybe he's got pride(or is freerolling on someone elses dime?).

I'm sure there will be enough action to keep the locals stirred up for a while. Maybe no 4 figure games, but heck, I even got myself into several sets for 100-200 which I prolly never would have before.

So I shall say, Thank you Mike. You definately have stirred up the place, for the better! Was good to finally meet you.

btw, you may have your thread back!!!

I just landed in Des Moines. Frost, answer your phone. Will somebody give me directions to this poolroom? Thanks. I'm on my phone, so it might take me a while to get back with you.

Not the fun trip to Iowa

I went out to Des moines, seemed like a nice place,Big dogs. I came to visit a very sick friend,Joe. Met a couple nice guys,The only gambling was, I only played a couple of one-handed games against the bar tender,at4am. Sunday. I won 20 bucks and all he could say was a guy as good as you is going to steal my money. At home on Tuesday I woke and went to clean the cue shafts and guess what my ernie martinez cue was missing. I called Joe and said- I'm coming with my 38,and I 'm going to get my cue,by 5pm I arrived and Joe had the cue. I waited to post becase of all the other posters. my advice don't tip this bartender, mark

from the airport, go the rest of the way through the cornfield to the south(thats the way the giant silo is). once you get to the gravel road, take a left. once you pass the casey's, go about 4 or 5 miles.

you will see a Farmer Tucker's new combine out near the road(he always likes to park it near the road), go past his place and take the next dirt road to the north(its a lvl b maintanence road but shouldn't be too bad, the road grader just went down it a few weeks ago, but if it starts to get where you think you will get stuck, just go back to Tuckers and he will follow you in his 4x4 dodge power wagon, btw, don't ask him about the bullet hole in the front quarter panel, he thought it was a buffalo!!!)

go north on the dirt road till you see the windmill on the right(not left cuz thats mother mary's place and if you happen to stop, you will be there for hours chatting w/ her about her chickens). after the windmill, go right on the gravel road. stay on it till it turns to pavement(asphalt).

Once you're on the asphalt, go straight all the way through the ol' mill. If you see Bob Cranz, don't stop! He will try to get you to help him with his fence. That ol bastard has had his fence ran over more times than jessica feller has busted her knee falling off Jed Millers tire swing!

Once you reach the concrete road, watch to your left as Daisy and her pet geese will prolly be out in the road playing(she is convinced that the warm concrete cures her geese arthritis.
Take the concrete road until you get to the city(Des Moines). From there, just take i235 to bigdogs.

thats the quick way, if you get lost, just gimme a hollar and i will tell you the back way in, its a bit longer and but more scenery..................

Okay, I'm in a truck with what I thought was a nice guy named Zed or Zeb. Gotta hurry typing this. I'm on the way, but he keeps asking me stuff about sheep. Should I be worried? Even us mountain folk aren't this concerned with our sheep. And, why would there be a "Backdoor Kinda Sheep."? Don't all barns have front and back doors? Dude, I don't any longer see any houses or pavement. Time to start asking some questions. I'll check back in.

Okay, I'm now on foot. That's one weird dude. One quick stomp to the knee, and I'm now hoofing it. Frost, if you don't answer your phone soon, I really am gonna smack you. I don't see sh#$. I'm gonna backtrack. Oh, fu#$ing great, it's raining.

are you suggesting that the bartender stole your cue out of your case? someone else took it? or did you leave it there on accident? i've left my cue's all around that place and have never had a problem. When they first opened years ago, i had forgotten my cues there until the next night. I called and asked if someone found them. They had and put them behind the bar. Sucks to think that someone would do that there. Hopefully this person doesn't work there anymore. Might wanna bring this up to Jon B if they do.

Glad you got your cue back at least.

No need to worry about houses or pavement,as long as you aren't in a "woods" type setting, you will be fine.( Zeb is harmless unless you insult his sheep, then you might wanna pucker up your buttcheeks.) IF and i say IF you happen to get into the "woods", just kindly ask Zeb to pull over and once he does, RUN LIKE HELL!!!

I am on foot. I'm pretty sure that Zeb guy is following me. I cannot get tired. I will not get tired. I can make it. Frost, that's 22 tries. You don't call me back soon and God help you if I find my way back to civilization. Wtf is it with all the corn? I saw that children movie, and you fu#$s that live in this stuff are sick. This rain is soaking my Swift 2 X 4. You don't have to pick me up, but could someone give me some plastic to help out with keeping my cues dry? This sh#$ is NOT funny.

Another wild night for me. I am not use to playing these high dollar sets. I now see the pressure that players are under for the dough as i def dogged some balls.

The first set i pretty much was in control the whole time. Second set john came out shooting well and took the lead and even got up 4.

We had been playing for almost 3 hours and i needed to use the bathroom and get a drink so i said lets take a break and he agreed. I did my thing and got a water and sit back down. 5 mins later john comes back inside.

A little birdy told me he was out there saying this is easy and he'd love to do it again. Well i think he got a little ahead of himself because when he came back in he started missing alot. Anyhow i won 9 games in a row and he was very upset( i think he missed three 7 balls). And not to long after that i won the second set. HE said nice shooting and put his cue away and headed out the door.

Dont know if he still wants to play again. Im sure ill hear something today or tomorrow.

hmmm, i thought you were gonna come to dm incognito. no one round these here parts carry a "swift" case. And we all keep our cues in the back of our pickup trucks rolling around in the bed.

you best get rid of that fancy case and get ur cues dirty and maybe make sure one of them have a good "bend" in it or your gonna stand out like Shirley Jean Sue at a convent!
