Update on the Des Moines pool scene

I can take a wild guess on the issue. Not enough notice, $65 fee that's winner take all, the fact that it is on a bar box, unclear on the payouts, no rules posted, no ante structure posted...basically not enough information. Too many question marks for the guys, all they know is SVB and Scott will be in it...I'll be making my way back Thursday night to catch the tail end of the game, people are going to pool money when it comes time to actually play the game...my prediction is there wont be a qualifier but you will have a full 6 man ring game. Just my guess.

I know quite a few people have contacted me and also don't like the change of plans but such is life. Let's just wish the event luck and be as supportive as we can. Thanks.
You see ring games go off all the time on short notice. Also I posted what the qualifier tourney would be two nights ago. I'll bump it again. Like I said, Des Moines should get in the ring with everyone else. I would like to see guys like Mike Athens, Jody, Pet, Mike B., the Richardson bros, and many others.

As I posted earlier I would love to play in a qualifier, but I can't on short notice. I am considering playing on Thursday though if they need a sixth and others are willing to make an "investment" for the other 3/5th's of the entry.

It would be great if you could play on thursday! I understand about the short notice of the qualifier. Hopefully we will see some guys come out for it. I think you would do very well in the big game!

I'll be gone, might catch the tail end at 1 or 2 AM when I get back from Indiana but I wish you luck and hope you get all the rolls. If you win big I'll be super proud of you, if you lose quick I'll still be proud you had the balls to get in the grease. Champions scare me still!

Champions are champions cause they get in the greese and see what happens. I think a chance at a $500 ring game for $65 speaks for itself. Do I expect to win, NO, but I like my odds as opposed to $500 knowing I will get destroyed. At least at $65 if I get in and get destroyed, I played great to get there and can hold my head high. Just a thought. Don't hamstring me either here bro. Cause I know you and I think alike.

It's grease nor greese...I was being sarcastic about the whole champion comment cuz I can care less how someone plays if I wanna play the game I play it. $65 isn't a bad price, it is a price people aren't lining up to pay though. Theres so many tourneys out there people arent star struck to play with pros or even care all that much about it. It's a moot point to me cuz I wont be there for the qualifier or most of the ring game. If I was in town, certainly with some different circumstances, I'd probably play the qualifier but then again I'd play the game too if I didnt win the qualifier. If you like your odds the money should be secondary.

Interesting first post...somethin tells me it'll be close to your last post...if not welcome to AZ

I just don't like looking past the first page for this thread.

So justin and i go to Big Dogs yesterday and hes beating up on me playing some 1pkt. In walks Scott Frost.....(playing 1pkt in front of him is not alot of fun.) We chatted for about 30mins or so, and he took off to see his mother. In the next hour i get 3 phone calls telling me Scott is in town, lol.

He was nothing but humble in talking about playing SVB. Said he hopes he puts on a good match.

kinda like having Tiger Woods watch you play a few holes of golf, huh? Don't worry about it, he knows when he walks in just about anywhere there won't be anyone that plays his speed....

Most all the pros I met at the DCC were very cordial, and seemed like great guys. Surprisingly all the pro golfers I've met are the same way. They all just do something better than 99.9% of participants in their sport....

Looking forward to seeing that high of a calibur players going at it on a barbox. Also looking forward to putting some faces with names on here. Be there Friday and Saturday!!

I never for the life of me understand people that are humble before a slug fest. It actually bothers me. Remember Ali or Tyson, even Jordan or really any other great in most sports. They might acknowledge someone is good but you always gotta throw in the fact you are gonna knock them out. It's like a good shoving match at a weigh in...it's to let the other guy know you're coming for their head. I like to see humble winners but not all the humble BS before a match. Shake it up a little, I was kinda hoping to hear he went on the PA system and said Shane might lose 150-0 the way I'm feeling. Damn at least Shane said the dude better be ready to play cuz he will be. I know that's not much in the trash talk department but hell I think thats what SVB is capable of, too nice. I'm not a vegetarian, where's the beef?

I am going to have to disagree. Why should a player have to say anything? Let your pool playing do the talking!

Some like the constant trash talk and chatter of a Minnesota Fats, some like the no nonsense of a Mosconi. Both could whip up on ya, just that if Fatty was doing it, you'd be a bit more red-assed  about it, and he'd likely get MORE of your money that way.

Can you image Ben Hogan doing a Tiger fist pump? Everyone's different, and like different things...playing either player is fine with me - used to it from other sports, and it's not easy to get under my skin :p

This isn't a tournament match, hell it's not even a typical gambling match. I don't wanna see guys going to a duel with nerf guns. I wanna see banana clips and war paint. Create a scene. Make the story behind the match. Build something up so people have something to look forward to besides some great players playing each other. Who wants to see Mr. Nice Guy? Being gracious in victory sure, that's being a gentleman and I agree with that. All I'm saying is this story has no story line. Hey I can get a stake, so can I well let's play a little just doesn't cut it in the drama department. Besides where are the characters in pool anymore? It's playing like an exhibition instead of an event. I want Vegas Fight Night in the air. I want tension, I wanna see KO punches and people get up. There's not even anything good to write up before the match starts. Best you can do is give match info and links to some interviews...that just doesn't sell seats. Get some promotion going and some hype up...that's not a bad thing. You can respect someone all day, in private I'm sure both of them are fairly certain they will win. To hell with that...go public. I'll be honest if SVB wins he just wins, that's it. If God wanted our sticks to do the talking our mouths would disappear when it's time to tee it up and get it on.

Perfect example...if Harriman and Schmidt match up again...that's gonna be the biggest TAR event ever because there is so much behind it. That's all I'm saying!

So basically Jason should have asked Scott when he saw him how does it feel going into a match you know you you aren't supposed to win?! THAT reply would have been fun to see . I think we will see more hype as it grows closer, or even people that show up on that Thursday and Friday. Looking forward to kicking it on Friday and Saturday watching on the big screen and then snapping off some people in the tournament of champions on Sunday for poker before going up to watch the final race to 50.

I like these statements.

I don't...it's like the big game in high school both teams go in amped up and hell someone's mascot might have been stolen before the match. Like the national championship Florida Vs. OU had it all going for them. Think superbowls, De La Hoya or Bernard Hopkins...I could go on forever point is more people get interested when there is more of a storyline or something to follow.

Tournament of Champions...I can win but didn't get the invite...time for a Grady post? haha

I asked Scott when i saw him how he likes being the underdog in his hometown................

And yes him watching us play 1pkt would be like Tiger playing golf with you. Its funny to me cause ive known Scott for many, many years. Playing anything but 1pkt would not bother me. Scott has watched our team play at State tournaments, and sat with us in Vegas for the BCA tournament. If anything at those times having him around made us play better.

My head is spinning from all this...the only thing I can do now is to go eat hot wings and hope its not too late.
