Looks bad for the home side again. :(
From what I heard Justin was loose as a goose and John was tight and uncomfortable. Now, I'm glad I didn't go. I would have probably emptied out on John.

Jay,

I think John could use your support, I think he is here by himself. Usually these kids run in packs but I have not seen anyone with him in the three days I have been in the pool room playing and watching. I will say that although the crowd is definitely pro Justin they have been extremey supportive of both players after a nice out. The match was a little sloppy but this is not an easy table and the cloth is about two months old so bals do not slide in like a table with newer cloth. I will post some updates tonight from my Blackberry, I just forgot last night.

Thanks for the update, I fell asleep when Justin was on 19 or 20. What time did they knock off for the night?

It was between midnight and one central time when they finished, I got a little restless around the 20 game mark and went and played a little one hole so I did not see how the play was that last 15 games or so.

You hit the nail on the head. John hung some balls and was coming short on position while Justin looked completely comfortable. Justin did by his own admission get a little weak at the end but overall was much more relaxed. John knows and understands what happened and seems to be at ease and understands that there is a whole lot of pool left to be played. He broke better than Justin but that did not make up for the unforced errors. I wouldnt count him out yet but he has a long road.

I think if he can get out tomorrow only trailing by 5 or 6 games he will still have a shot. I heard a story that Scooter asked Justin to bet a dime that Morra would get to 60 first and Justin just walked away. I didn't see it and I can't say that I even believe it but if true it is possible Justin still has a healthy respect for John's game even after a pretty dominating first day.

One thing I believe without reservation is that these 2 young lions are outstanding examples of the next generation of professional pool players. Both showed great poise and carried themselves very well from the start of this whole endeavor. It is a pleasure to watch them play and to work with them.

One of the reason Justin walked away from Scooter could be was that he didnt want to be distracted by Scooters yakity yak during play tomorrow. Scooter is the big Maha when it comes to woofing and Justin probably didnt want to deal with that during the game. Justin also probably has most of his bankroll on this game on the rail already.
The thing is my buddy Jay Helfert went away from the Derby praising Johnny Morra. Everybody went on the internet and touted him from that including Jays buddy Fatboy who was there at the Derby. I knew a little about Justin and his experience in big games after meeting him in LA and talking to him. The kid talked like a winner. No attitude but just confidence in his game. Im sure when the railbirds got on the internet to make Morra favored that pumped up Justin. In my mind had to make Justin the favorite.

Oh forgot. Thanks TAR for all the hard work again! THis time there was 62 users last nite at least. A great improvement over Reno. Congrats. May it only get bigger. Hey getting Harriman on the mike was great as well. All those that didnt get the PPV missed getting the insight on what makes him tick. Very interesting. Get Alex against him and we got a bet.

Myself and a buddy who was over sweating the match with me both agreed that Danny Harriman's commentary was quite insightful. His all around pool skills allowed him to offer the viewers options that pure 9ball players miss. I hope he is in the booth all three nights.

First off its great to see TAR's numbers grow. I will continue to promote them and give them alot of support. I like them on a personal level and professional one as well.

Second my concern last night was that Justin was hitting balls for 45 minutes on the TV table just before the match went off, I called Chad and asked where Morra was....Shower....Then he came down 45 minutes later racked the balls chrshed them made 3-4 ran the rest off dont know if he missed the vaccum guy pushed him off the table and started cleaning it, Morra went to eat chicken finger I was told. Then Justin gets in the box again and keeps hitting balls.

Match starts Morra looks lethargic, cold, kinda tight, and detached like he was trying to down play the pressure. I have no shot to beat him so I am saying this as a observation only, I have met him and like him. I have seen him play strong in the after hours 10 ball ring game, however his hands were shaking everytime he paid or collected. I'm not knocking him at all, but there could be a couple things here, Action aint his bag, he wasnt ready for action this big, or something else. He played bad some strange shots too, he was awalys going to the rail and back out instead of just keeping the rock on a short leash, he also did some TV shots to pump himself up a few times, he got on the wrong side of the ball alot but usually shot his way out of trouble. Justin's game was much more relaxed and professional looking.

Morra will be put to the test tonight, I hope for his sake he performs well. In boxing bringing up a fighter to fast can mess with their head for along time, i hope this isnt the case here. He is capable of playing alot better than last night

Good stuff!

The mental state is the biggest part of the game. How many guys you know in your local pool hall can run rack after rack in practice but when the money is on the line their whole game goes out the window. Im talking about cant make a ball 2 feet from the p ocket shakes. I saw in Justin a lot of character. Well beyond his years. A type of guy who could beat anybody on any given day. I'm not over pumping the guy but he has a good head on his shoulders. And has the right attitude for a player.
I saw this in a few guys at the Derby. Mike DeSchane (?) was one of them. Played Busty without any fear. Just set out to play his best. Almost beat him but Busty's professionalism got him out. But I knew Busty didnt like it. He almost lost. Guys like that give you your best bang for your buck.
THats what Justin has. I hope Johnny Morra can find that in himself.
