Updates on 10 Ball Open?

Don't know the latest results but I'm really pulling for Keisuke Hanawa, and Naoyuki Oi of Japan. Both players I know well, and both in my opinion are the future of pool here in Japan. I've known Keisuke for nearly 7 years as he had always been the top amateur in my area until he turned pro. He turned pro about 3 years ago, and has been pretty consistent on the tour over here. He uses a Predator break cue (the first one) as his play cue, and swears by it. Two weeks ago, played with him in a ring game, and he says that for the past two months, he'd been practicing harder than he ever has, and was just starting to notice the difference.
Naoyuki just turned pro last year, and already on his first year on the tour has become the No. 1 ranked professional player in Japan. Just three years ago, I played him in a tournament and lost hill/hill in a short race to 5. What amazes me about him, was that three years ago, he played about even to my speed, and was just another kid I often ran into on the small house tournament scene. In the past three years, he's gone from an everyday 'strong' amateur, to Japans top pro player. He also has one of the most powerful breaks I've ever seen. Would like to see either one of these guys do well over there.

Danny Harriman defeated Alex Pagualayan 10-8 last night. At one point Danny was up 7-1 but Alex held on and almost came back. I left after that match. After that, Danny went into the redraw and Alex had to go play Ignacio Chavez on table 17. Danny is playing extremely well, so are Ralf, Niels, Johnny, Dennis, Marlon, Francisco, and Tony Crosby (Tony had just went to the one loss side after losing to Niels).
I watched Cliff Joyner play John Morra Saturday afternoon, Cliff had won that match and I'm pretty sure that during the same session that Hunter lost his second match, but I cannot remember who he was playing.

any more updates? The brackets on the main page are showing 8 left on the winner's side and 8 on the loser's side, what is the format for today????

I think this format is what the WPC uses or some version of it. The last 16 players in the event start over again in a single-elimination format. It's great for the loser bracket guys, but for the winner bracket guys, they only get to lose once. Whereas, the loser bracket guys get to lose twice.
I don't like it when they make a true double-elimination tournament one longer race at the end, but that is another popular format for the bigger tournaments.
Of course, the players know the format going into it, so there are no surprises. Keith talked to Ronnie Wiseman last night who was getting ready to play Stevie Moore. I think Stevie beat him, so Ronnie is out. I always pull for the old school, even though Ronnie is a Canadian!
