Just wanted to say always insure your cues
and save documents .I had a real nice James
White cue and ups has lost it .Now I have to
file a claim to get the money I insured it for and
provide documents that it was worth what I insured
it for .So if anyone runs across a nice JMW with
flame veneers ask them where they found it
Also I have 3 shafts that will be up for sale soon

Always Insure!!!

Always insure and always get a receipt for the full retail value of the cue...contact James and he should help you out!!!

i have had issues with ups in the past. they usually only pay what you own it for, not the "value" or what it sold for. and they want good documentation, not just a handwritten bill of sale. the us postal service is the best by far, what you insure it for is what they pay.

I wouldn't use UPS or FED-EX they suck leave my stuff 2 or 3 houses down
the road I have to go knocking on doors always find it! I refuse to ship with them if it's the only way the seller will ship I buy from someone else!
USPS Priorty is the only way to go!!!!!!!! Ron

if for some reason you don't take the insurance option when shipping (although that is retarded), if you have homeowners or renters insurance and have the cues listed on the policy (and sometimes you don't even need to list them depending on your company), you can file there (and pay the deductible to replace it).

oh boy, i probably just started a claims filing catastrophe! :sorry:

You are not home yet, as I believe they UPS has 30 days to look for it. Hopefully it is lost, and not DAMAGED, as if that is the CASE. You could get the Old UPS run around, that it was not packed per their specifications.

Good luck with you claim, as it is not settled until the money is in your hands.

I guess it depends on your local carrier. No problems with FedEx or UPS on my side of town, but I had to get a PO Box due to a bad mail carrier who kept delivering stuff to the wrong address.

Either way, always pay for the insurance. Better safe than sorry....

A friend of mine ordered speakers one time and they were being shipped UPS. They were a few days late so he checked the tracking #. Much to his surprise it said "Delayed - Train Derailed". Craziest tracking info. I have ever seen. I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it. :)

I hope they find your cue Matt.

Matt, hope your cue shows up but I have not had much faith in UPS in many years. Of all the shippers I've encountered, they seem to be at the bottom about caring about you (as a private customer) or your package. FedEx or USPS have both been rock solid for me. Will keep my fingers crossed for you, dude.

Good luck getting ANY money out of UPS insurance. I hate to say it, but they'll screw you over.

Wow. I just ordered Mig welder and they are shipping it "GROUND".

Man, I hope it gets here okay. I usually put insurance on aything over $200~

That is alway why I ship USPS (Postal Service). Claim Problem, the Claims Clerk work in the Mail Post Office, 8 miles away, is friendly, helpful, and talks to you one on one. Only had 1 CLAIM in who know how many yrears, but it was handled FAIR & FAST!

Fed X Ground is the WORST, NEVER will I use Fed X for ANYTHING AGAIN.

i had a cue sent next day air and i did not get it the next day so i tracked it and ups said delayed because of a storm.

I was an account manager with UPS for 5 years before opening my pool room. I dealt mainly with large companies but had to deal with many claims as well. Had to do alot of onsite damage inspections.

First of all let me say that all of the carriers could do a better job in taking care of packages. One person will say that UPS is best, one will say that Fedex is the best, it just depends on a person's experience.

I will say that UPS does an aggressive job in evaluating claims. There is so much fraud involved, pool cues especially. Also, it always amazed me how people would pack fragile items, no cushioning or just newspaper wrapped around an item.

I will say that better handling could be done by carriers but if someone is shipping across country and packs something like crap, what happens to their package is their own fault.

Stuffing a cue in a box wrapped in newspaper isn't smart, put foam cushioning around the cue that gives close to 2" of cushioniung between the cue and the wall of the box. Also, try to use a NEW box.

Doing these things won't guarantee that nothing will happen but greatly increase the chances of the package beling delivered on time and in good shape.

Alot Of Onsite Damage Inspections...wow

I think this kinda say's it all about how good ups is in handling packages!

Thats really unforunate thing to happen.
I have shippe many cues out of thailand and i only ship ups to states.I like the way their tracking system works.I always insure my cues and havnet faced a problem yet.Usually my cues get shipped 3rd working day and i feel thats quite quick.I havent faced any problems with usps also but dont like their tracking system.I am sure ur cue will be found.Hopefully intact.

I sent two cues to Florida via USPS about a year or so ago and when they were delivered the tube was empty. They were sent to a good friend of mine that is a cue maker and the mail man gave him an empty tube and thought nothing of it. I did have them insured BUT.....I did not buy the cues new and the claim department told me I HAD TO HAVE PROOF OF WHAT I SPENT ON THEM......that is BS in my opinion. I told them " what if I go to a yard sale and buy a painting worth $10,000 and pay $5 for it and its lost in the mail do I get my $5 back or what its worth? The lady I talked to was quit helpfull though, she told me " I am not telling you to do this but if you have someone write you up a bill of sale and back date it you will be fine." Thats what I did and everything worked out fine about a month later.

One time with USPS.

It was not a pool cue, but was a $300.00 plus item, that I purchased from a private individual off ebay. The item was coming out of the mid east to the west coast. It got with 30 miles of my house and then the computer read the barcode and sent it back to Denver and it left Denver to some place in New Mexico. Back to Denver and then out to Portland again. I can't remember how many times it went back and forth on this route, till I asked or help from a friend of mine that works at USPS lost items department. By this time it was 2 to 3 months late when I finally received it. I wish I could have clamed the frequent flyer miles.

One time with UPS and biggest mistake ever

Shipped a cue recentley and it was only going about 600 miles and the tracking kept saying it was fine until the last day and then it just disapeared. It finally showed up 20 days later and the cue butt was in 2 pieces stuffed back in the box with shafts that were grinded into the butt.I filled a claim and they said it wasn't packed right when they inspected the damage and refused to pay. Of course the packing was gone because the box looked like a mack truck ran over it. Besides that they charged me twice as much as usps usually charges but the buyer wanted that all important better tracking system.:sorry:

You could have over packed it in a hundred pounds of bubble wrap and triple boxed it and they would have not paid. Standard reason given for refusal to pay for damage "packed improperly". They NEVER Pay, unless you have UPS pack it. Then expect to pay through the nose for the services, if you can find it. I stopped using UPS.
Use USPS priority mail, insured or if it's really valuable send it Registered-insured. It cost more, and is a bit slower but has to be signed for all along the way and locked up when not in transit. I've shipped very expensive items this way. Never had a problem.
