US Open 08/18-23

The only players in the final 16 with a sub-800 Fargo rating are Oscar and Baoanan at 789 each.

Baoanan has a low robustness, though. Only starting playing outside the Philippines a few years ago. Made the final 16 of the 2024 US Open too, where he lost to Alcaide 10-7.

No advantages? Most of them had a day off to rest. And they're also guaranteed to draw a player in the round of 64 who did not have that luxury. I'd call that an advantage.
Some may consider that an advantage. Myself, I don’t think players get any great benefit from a “day of rest”. Some might, but 9 ball is not exactly a strenuous activity and many benefit more by being in stroke later in the week from just continuing to play.

As for his other comments...

Matches run on time.
Worldwide TV coverage.
$500,000 prize fund that's mostly added money.
The prizes are actually paid.
Much stronger fields.

I think @Frosty is a victim of selective memory.
It’s not about selective memory Bob. I’d agree that at times until Barry passed the event “had issues”. I believe all those issues disappeared when Pat Fleming was running it after Barry passed.

With Pat, matches ran on time, prize money was paid, viewing was available with Accu-Stats and they do better camera work. The strength of the fields has nothing to do with MR, it’s just something that has progressed every year as there are more stronger players with each passing year. I will say that prize money has grown.

My issues are, races to 9 until round of 64, where it moves to 10. It was always races to 11 until the Final. That it isn’t really double elimination. That at 64 it becomes single and that’s not quite fair to those still on the winners side. Mostly, I preferred it in Virginia instead of Casino in Jersey. That match play wasn’t accompanied by insipid music playing and commentators that use pool vernacular instead of snooker terminology. 🤷🏻‍♂️
