US Open 10-ball?

Now that the UPA has gone to 10-ball, and the UPA now sanctions the US Open, does that mean 10-ball will be played at the US Open?

After having posted this now I wonder if I'm mistaken. Did the UPA switch to 10-ball, or are they just sanctioning this event in Florida that happens to be 10-ball?

I dont think so

It is called the us open NINE BALL championships, because of the game of nine ball so i dont think that they will change it, at least for a while.

As far as I know it is just the Florida tournament that is 10-Ball.

matter of time

it is just a matter of time before the u s open turns to 10-ball..it just has to happen..the one thing they did, which i like, was not allow a win on the break if it went in the bottom corners..You could luck it in the other 4 corners, but you could'nt manipulate it in the bottom 2!!!! The promoters that get swayed into rack your own tourneys are clueless..They are potatoes looking for meat(full fields).:D

It could just as easily be called the US Open Ten Ball Championship, so I don't think this is the reason that they would, or would not, scrap the idea of going to 10-ball.

It sounds like it's just the Florida tournament that is 10-ball though so I don't think there's any plan to play 10-ball at the US Open any time in the near future -- at least not in 2006. :)

Certain players have been lobbying for 10 ball for awhile, for all the reasons & issues that have developed with 9 ball. For this paticular tournament the PLAYERS VOTED TO PLAY 10 BALL. For now it's only this tournament, but that's not to say that it won't be voted on again. Let's see what happens.

Now who said you can't make the 10 on the break to win. I do it all the time.

I'm off to the Monthly Tour Stop, wish me luck.

Why would they have to switch to 10-ball?
Why not a seperate U.S. Open 10-Ball Championship.

There is room for more than one game in the world of pool.

Barry, are you listening. :D

Does this mean that I will have to buy another Sardo rack?:D

PS I don't know how the 10 balls are racked.
Triangular. 1 at the apex, 10 ball in the middle. Sardo Rack does the job.

did anybody see the google video's of alex p running out two racks of 10 in a ring game? iirc he gets to the table on the 2 or 3, runs out.. breaks and runs out PERFECT position... comes up dry on the 3rd rack and throws his stick on the floor....

sad he has bad sportmanship about something like that... maybe one day he'll 'grow up' and i'll enjoy watching him more. just seems like he expect to win every tourney he plays in... not out of confidence, but cockiness though...

sorry if i'm wrong.

That was the DCC 10-ball ring game, and Alex P. was just joking around for the crowd. He did it with a smile on his face and everybody laughed. Earlier he boasted that he was going to string some ridiculous number of racks together, so he was just pretending to be upset about falling short. He was clowning around through the whole thing.

No 1 ball in the front, 9 ball in the middle. Everything else random.

I came in 9th yesterday, a bit peeved wanted to do better. Finished 9th overall. Till next month.

Congratulations, Black Cat. Awfully tough field. Seems like JJ, Shawn, Corey, and Orcullo survive on the B side; and Mika plays Engert for the hotseat.

P.S. I imagine you meant 10 ball in the middle. That's what I thought. Thanks.

Black Cat 5791...No offense, but I know you must be speaking metaphorically! All the time? Ummmm, can we BET on that? LOL Tell ya what...I'll give you 10 breaks of a 10 ball rack (more if you want to continue), and we'll bet $100 per rack. Guess who'll win that bet? :D I'd say you'd be VERY lucky to make it once out of 10 tries...which, statistically would be way ahead of the top pros on earth!

Some people would say that it is easier to make a 10-ball on the break than the 9-ball. That's why on the Florida Pro Tour they have a rule about the 10-ball not counting on the break. I have never head of any Tour or tournament that has that rule playing 9-ball.

Also on the FL Pro Tour the 2 and 3 are placed on the two bottom corners of the rack.
