US Open 2026: Frisco, Texas

the texas pool nuts alone will pack the place. it will be a success. imo kansas city would be a great option: centrally located, good weather(hot but not like big d) restaurants, etc. kinda surprised they're leaving florida myself. btw, she's FAR from clueless.

they're leaving atlantic city.. i think (on a cocktail of pain meds so thinking and spelling can be off)

In 1985, I spent a week on business in the Dallas area in August. It was over 105 degrees every day and humid. It was the worst (not hottest) weather I have ever experienced. When my company's headquarters chose to relocate there in 1988, I very quickly chose NOT to go with them. I'm definitely planning on going to the US Open 9ball, but it sure sounds like six days indoors. Thankfully, the indoor proceedings should be fantastic.

I'll keep an open mind here, but Dallas (actually, Frisco is 27 miles from Dallas) in August seems a very strange choice. Other than the Jeddah WPC event that is always played before countless empty seats, the last time a Matchroom major was staged in a really hot, humid city in the hot weather season was when they staged the Spanish Open in June 2023 in Lugo, Spain. I cannot remember an event after which the players complained so much about the humid playing conditions, and to nobody's surprise, Matchroom never returned there, If Frisco is going to be Lugo all over again, heaven help all of us who plan to attend.

I'll trust Matchroom to make this work, but they have got their work cut out. Let's hope they will manage the playing conditions more skillfully than they did in Lugo.

I think they are thinking of audience attendance when moving from Atlantic City, NJ to Texas. Texas is a way bigger pool playing demographic than NJ.

Also, Atlantic City is a shell of its former self. It's become very run-down and ghetto/dirty/unsafe. Not at all how it was 15 years ago. There's nothing of value there anymore.

At least in Texas, they can hope for the seats to be packed with fans who actually want to watch pool.

However, after watching Landman, it seems that driving from one city to the next in Texas takes about 3-5 hours. About 75% of the show was Billy Bob Thornton driving to meetings in his pickup truck 😂

Texas has A/C down to a fine art. I don't foresee the weather being a factor in how tables play. If doing outdoor stuff you have to do it early. That time of year it can be mid-90's by 11am if not earlier. I'm used to it but if you're not it is a shock to the system.

Atlantic City always had big crowds. That's not the reason. This is all about production cost.

Don't you think they will have an even bigger crowd in an actual pool playing State?

I don't disagree that it's about production cost as well though.

Just have the US Open and Mosconi Cup at Madison Square Garden or Barclays Center and be done with it 😂

New Yorkers alone will pack the house.

Not sure if Emily can afford that though lol.

Just a wag but i'd bet Hilton gave MR a sweet deal on the property that time of year. I've never been there but have friends that have stayed there during OU/Texas weekend and also for business. They all liked it. Its in a big retail area right off the SamRayburnTollway. 15-20min from DFW.

No, I don't think they will outdraw the large crowds always found in Atlantic City, which is in New Jersey, but is easily drivable from New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

FYI, Texas is a gigantic state. The distance from Dallas to San Antonio is further than the distance from Atlantic City to Richmond, Virginia and is more comparable to the distance from Atlantic City to Providence, Rhode Island. The distance from Houston Texas to Dallas Texas is greater than the distance from Atlantic City to Washington, DC.

These points aside, I suspect the new hotel venue will be a lot better than Harrah's. The quality of the hotel will be critical as going out will be an undesirable option.

Of course, and as I've said before, if keeping production costs in line enables Matchroom to produce new majors and grow prize funds, I'm OK with it.

3-5 hours and you are still in Texas! With plenty more to see and do!

The DFW area has a large pool fan base. I believe it will be packed even if only locals attend. I doubt if they will have an issue with humidity inside.
