Yeah, sometimes you can't trust the "special rate". At one tournament at the Riviera (25 years ago) the "special rate" was $80 but at the same time the hotel was sending out coupons for $25/night. It can pay to shop around, but a lot of hotels will beat any third-party rate.

I just checked direct with Harrah's for the six nights. They are quoting $985 including resort fees and all for the six nights and free cancellation. If you have free cancellation, it is worth checking back closer to your trip.

Yes, sometimes a hotel requires a certain number of room-nights. I don't think there's any practical way for them to check. You could be sharing. If they have a question, you can show them your room key.

I think it would be a better look if it was not required, and it's not required for local residents.

I just checked and the cost including taxes and all fees appears to be $140/night for a room with two double beds. I think that's pretty reasonable for a host hotel. I stayed at the Doubletree in AC when I went and it was OK but Harrah's would have been better, especially without a car.

On the other hand, Bally's for the Mosconi Cup was quoting $700/night for tardy people. Fortunately Las Vegas has other options.

it's a strong field but a fairly weak pinoy and chinese contingent. i only see raga and lee van (gomez, alex doesn't count). from what we saw at the shark's event you'd expect more of them trying their luck for 50k.

Yes Matchroom European event was a disappointing tournament for Chang. But I think it is best viewed as just a blemish.
Because he was unseeded, he instead of having a defacto free ride through the 1st round faced Kun Lin Wu (806) and lost.
Then after winning a B-side match 8-2, he lost on the hill (7-8) to The Kien Do (760), another unseeded player on the above list.
