They opened the entries about two hours ago and it is already full. In the past some spots have opened up fairly late. $750 to enter.

Rooms at Harrah's (required for players) are about $145/night including taxes/fees for two queen beds.

Matchroom told me since I am local they will make an exception to the room requirement. I have an NJ license and live within 30 minutes of AC. It took them two hours to respond and by then the list was already closed. But I am on the wait list like last year.

Did you have to show proof of residency?

MR most likely guarantees the venue hotel that the players will stay there as part of their usage deal. MR is a private co. that can stipulate what they want in their events. Based on how fast they fill it it must not be an issue with most players.

I was thinking more the topside split to make the paynouts easier.

Noticed the email this morning that entries opened up yesterday. Signed up for the wait list. Was it not $500 last year...?

I sat on the wait list last year and had a spot offered up, and was given a few days to pull the trigger if memory serves. Which I didn't....

I'm getting the feeling that the MR USopen will cease to be an "open" event within the next few years, so I may have to yank this cost bandaid if I want it off my bucket list. Keep in mind the whole point in "open" events is to provide joe public with a means to qualify for the main draw. Both Golf and tennis have these avenues via satellite qualification. I'm thinking the pool version is just riding the name recognition.

How can they "require" players to stay at a certain place?
Did N.J. leave the United States?
I bitched to MR about that.

I wasn't paying $1300 extra when my home is 30 minutes away. I'd rather sleep in my own bed then worry about getting bed bugs from a hotel. Plus the water is really shitty in that part of the state. They use that desalinated stuff and it feels really crappy after using that for a few days. I mean the hotel is nice for an AC place, nice views and a decent walking around the place. But the food options really suck at that place, I seen one restaurant, a burger place, fried chicken joint a crappy pizza place and Starbucks. It's not like your on the boardwalk and have another casino next door with tons of options. The next casino is probably a mile down the road so if you want something you're driving.

By the time It took them two hours to respond to my message the event was fully booked. I'm now on the wait list. Since i'm local and early on the list i expect to be higher up on the list.

It was $750 last year as well.

I do feel that the "Open" will not be an open in a few years as well. I could signup for a satellite tournament yesterday, but way too many restrictions upon winning I don't want to deal with the headaches.

I know in golf you have to qualify to get a "pro" card and that somewhat makes you eligible to participate in pro events. I'd probably feel accomplished if I got one of them cards. But then again how do we qualify someone for a pro card we can't even get a rating universal

That you weren't auto entered indicates they just want the income.

I'm not sponsored.

This is probably how this event goes. Most of the sponsors are already arranged blocks for their players. And what is left is open to the Gen Pop. You might have 20 truly open spots and this is how it's sold out in two hours. What is not filled by a certain date they put the seats on the wait list so scumbags like myself get an opportunity to play.

That you entered, were denied, and later approved too late is what I'm talking about. maybe it was already full but you didn't specify and it didn't sound like that was the case; not that I'd expect you as a competitor to make any waves. Regardless MR seems to have gone full tilt inflation.
