US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

Why not select on merit and merit only? Picking someone because they are capable and give someone else a chance?
There are many players capable of playing very well that are off the radar. I know guys that are not Fargo Rated that can play with anyone in the world, in all games. Why not seek them out if you want capable and give a player a chance that doesn't deserve it no matter their ability, it could be feel good movie.
Merit and merit only, no favors or sympathy especially for players of 30 years who haven't won crap and can't even win local tourneys.

I don't view pool 100% according to Fargo but the pool world looks at it like a credit score, it works.
# 75 .Hunter Lombardo USA 733.
Not a contender and never was in my opinion, and we know all about opinions.
If his points put him in the top 5 then he deserves a spot on the team.

# 27. Donny Mills USA 754.
If I'm looking through your eyes of capable and give someone a chance I am selecting Donny.
I don't know him or never met him, I have only seen him compete on streams.
He stepped up and played Shane for cash on a stream in front of the pool world, very few will.
He has heart and ability. Heart carries a lot of merit in my eyes.
From what I hear he might have to take a boat to Europe if that's where it's played.
"I know guys that are not Fargo Rated that can play with anyone in the world". Who are these guys?

Neil’s through to the last 8. I’d like a Neil’s Svb final, then not sure who I would want to win it!
Although ko pin yi is going to be a tough test, made light work of Albin

unless filler shapes up, i think we'll see svb vs. fedor or big ko

Points based on total amount of money made in matchroom tournaments _is_ merit.
No argument here but even without the points Oscar should be there. We have seen Oscar play against the world's best over the last 12 months and he's done well with wins over Filler and FSR, who will likely be on the other team. He is THE 4th best we have at the moment and can give Donny the 8 all day.

Jefrey Roda is the giantkiller and dark horse. Already upsetted 4x800 in a row-Filler, Zielinski, Ignacio, Johann Chua.
There is reason he is called DeathStroke
DeathStroke plays the Gorst in quarters

you know, we all know.. rather than name them and shame them, have a faster shot clock weed them out or speed their game tf up.
I was responding to the previous post, which I interpreted to suggest we remove the shot clock from the streaming table and televise players that naturally play fast. I'm suggesting there are way too many slow players for this to be feasible.

whatever dude. the reason for the byes was inept running of qualifiers. they should have just opened up to anybody if nothing else for optics. i don't like dead-money players but having open spots looks worse.
I actually agree with you and stated that. I said that "I believe they will get it fixed and more pool rooms will hold more qualifiers and the competition at the event will be great all week long." This was the first year for qualifiers. Pool rooms felt that Matchroom was asking for too much. Once it gets figured out it will be great for the US Open and US Pool. I am more of an optimist than a pessimist.

Ok. If anyone is there and heard? They just cut to break but Jason went up to Svb and started talking to him. Any idea what was said. Didn’t look like anything but Svb seemed in the zone and would assume he wouldn’t want to stop and chat😄
