US Open 9 Ball Pattern Racking Predictions

Given all the "Rack Mechanics" out there and the "Rack your own" format at the US Open with the 9" (Either side of the Spot) break box...9 on the spot...2 ball in the back and 3 balls must pass the side pocket rules while using the Accu Rack what pattern racking scenarios do you think the players will use for the remaining six balls?

Thanks

Wedge

In the world 9 ball championship game, Big Ko was placing 8 behind the 1 on the side he was breaking from every time (presumably to see the edge of the 1 better on aiming for the break) until the ref stepped in and told him to start mixing up the rack.

But they were breaking from the rail in that, so I'm not sure if that will be needed when breaking from box.

.......or swap the 3,6 and 5,8.

I would assume your pattern is that if breaking from the left side of the table and making the wing ball (7) the 8 ball stays around the rack area and the 6 ball moves down to the kitchen (conversely if breaking from the right with the 4, 5 and 3) making it more difficult to run out.

Is that your thinking?

Thanks

I like this because it's close to the pattern that I use especially with the magic rack.

I like the above rack if the 2 ball isn't required to be racked in the back. I don't like the two in the back because it can get hung up low.

I swap the 5 and 6 balls because from this position, the 5 ball tends to come up table more often leaving the 6, 7, 8, 9 balls at the rack end.

The two ball tends to go towards the left side pocket leaving an easy-ish shot which is helpful if position on the 1 ball is sketchy.

If you see me rack this for myself, don't panic, I generally only run 3 - 5 balls before handing the table over to the winner. All seriousness aside, this works great in my basement on a 9 foot.

Now back to the OP's original point. Yes, there will be rack shenanigans because an honest player is at a disadvantage. I wish they would use neutral rackers.

Why not make the pattern official?
....insist on a consistent pattern for all the balls...

Put the 1 at the back of the rack and make them kick at it, that will ensure some randomness.

That's it Wedge. There's really not a lot of back and forth.....up and down table like this. The two usually comes up table and then you work your way down table.

I agree everyone should have to use the same pattern, but at winner breaks there could be a huge disadvantage. The lag could determine the winner of the set.

I like this
Hide the low ball
Also ban rack your own
I am sure we can easily get team of azb volunteers to be neutral rackers :grin-square:
