In this double elimination format, I noticed that some players can go 2 and out the same day. While others, who haven't yet played their first match until tomorrow at the earliest. Curious why it was scheduled this way.

two of the commentators today talked about it. It's on purpose and the players like it. Split into 2 groups and having a day off and more games on the same day. Alternative might be some players playing 2 matches over 4 days.

They split the 256 bracket into two 128 fields. As a player I would like this way better. Get more play in right away, the day you start play. Get a day break as well, depending if you on A side or not. I like this setup way more. Also, with bracket done a week before you can plan better.

Commentators are probably talking like politicians saying "players like it" so as to brush it aside. I doubt they took poll/survey of whether players like it or not and what they say probably based on anecdotes from couple of players (How many times you hear politician say that everyone support their policy when only a handful of their own people support it :ROFLMAO:)
Don't think it is big issue but one would think in situation between 2 matches in 1 day and 0 matches in 1 day, the midpoint/average solution of 1 match per day (so all players play a match on Day 1 instead of half of players play 2 matches while other half play 0 match) would be optimum

We don't know what we don't know. Let it all play out and we'll all see/hear what their reasoning was/is.

i sorta gree but if you have two players ready to play and an open table why not let them play? 256 players is a bunch to co-ordinate.
We used to call that "roll on, roll off." That way we kept the tables going all the time. The best way to handle a large field of players. We would go right down the bracket so you could see when your match was getting close to being up. KISS!

It'll be interesting to see what the players say, after the fact.
But Jay, I too like knowing when matters are going to happen in a top to bottom order, it's a no brainer to figure that out.
Keeps the TD from having to answer why/and have more questions asked.
