US Open Past Champs not present

All these have FREE ENTRYyet chose not to show:

Mike Sigel

Allen Hopkins

David Howard

Jimmy Reid

Buddy Hall

Efren Reyes

Reed Pierce

Alex Pagulayan

I know Jimmy is sick but the others should be here imo. What's going on?
I heard from Gallego and a couple other Pinoys why Alex, Efren and Django are not at this year's Open.

Apparently, this is typhoon season in the Phillippines, and they are allegedly afraid to fly because of it. The other Pinoys that are here were already here for Galveston.

Someone else said that the three mentioned above were playing in some tournament in Japan.

I mentioned this to Souquet and he said he was not aware of any such tournament.

Who or what you believe is up to you.

So, bottom line is that it is anybody's guess as to why they are not here! One may just
have to ask them directly...:)

I will say that with the notable absences mentioned in the OP, this field is still very strong and it is quite a thrill watching them compete, and gamble...always is!

OK, maybe you forgot the topic of conversation. We are are talking about past champions not coming to VA. So taxes in NYC have nothing to do with this. Im not staying in the roach motel or the murder inn....

"Roach Motel or Murder Inn." :killingme::killingme::killingme::killingme:

I catch your draft and can appreciate your opinion.

I am most definitely sticking with mine. You cannot attend the U.S. Open as a competitor for under 2 dimes, lodging for 8 days, unless you eat fast food, sleep on the floor, share a room with another player, or sleep in the Roach Motel or Murder Inn. :grin-square:

Jenny...Amen to that. TRY to even GET a hotel room in NYC for double that ($100/night). Very doubtful...especially in Manhatten, where the average is $150-$200 BEFORE taxes.

BTW...You've more likely not seen or heard from David Howard in EONS...ions are something completely different!:grin:

Thanks for the spelling correction. Wow! I've been spelling it wrong all these years too. It just goes to show you're never too old to learn new tricks, and I'll be the first to admit it. :)

Yeah, NYC, what a nightmare that gets worse and worse. The hotel rooms that do cost $150 to $200 -- plus a HUGE TAX -- are dumps. We stayed at one on Queens Boulevard West one time, going to a pool tournament at Master's, and the hotel lobby was fully of hookers. The room scared me. The lock was loose on the door, and the carpet was moist to the touch. I never took my socks off. There was no cold water, and there were black bugs flying around. Welcome to the Big Apple.

I'm sure I could have gotten a nice room for $300-plus somewhere, but when you're on the road, this isn't feasible. :frown:

Now you're talking!

Thats the hotel I'm looking for!

LOL, thanks JAM!

Yikes!! That cat rocks!!

While Reed definitely has a new business to attend to, you are smoking something if you think you are gonna drag him to the open these days for a solid week even sans the business... It's deer season for criminy's sake!!!!

Lots of reasons why they can't be there but it's still a shame they aren't.. no blame sent, just some disappointment. I love seeing Buddy anywhere anytime. He's my main man pool player.... him a a few others... like Sailor of Racine, and Keith, and and and and . :yeah:
