Does anyone know if this year will still be rack your own?
I really hope they at least get a ref to rack during the semi's and the finals, or during all streamed matches.
From the US Open web site:
•Break Box
•3 Balls past Side Pocket
•No soft Breaks ◦Velocity is key to determining a proper break. Players must break the balls with proper speed and it will not be a foul if three balls do not pass the headstring. Players must make an honest attempt to break the balls. A foul will not be called if a player breaks with velocity.
•Winner breaks, Rack your own
•2 ball behind 9 ball
Pattern racking solution:
Breaker racks the balls in any pattern he wants. Opponent has the option to require the breaker to exchange the position any two balls (except the one and nine or ten, of course) (and, in this case, the two-ball).
After the position exchange the breaker racks the balls tight and breaks. No touching the balls after you've lifted the triangle (does not apply when using a racking template).
This solution is based on the theory that you can destroy any pattern by exchanging the position of just two balls. Try it; you'll see that it works.
No software, no sheets with pre-determined racks, no nothing -- just five seconds to exchange the position of two balls.
Pattern racking would become a non-issue if the industry adopted this rule. There simply wouldn't be any advantage to attempt a patterned rack.

The Accu-Rack Diamond 9 Ball will be used with the 9-Ball on the spot...
The break box will be 18"... 9" either side of center....
3 balls will be required past the side pockets with balls made counting towards the 3...
2 Ball at the back of the rack......

Do you think there will be an issue with players soft breaking the 1 into the side anyway? I think they will and hope the tight rack gives them two balls past the side.
If they make an illegal break, is it BIH or just loss of turn?

The Accu-Rack is about as neutral as you are going to get... Either the balls are frozen or they are cocked... It takes less than 30 seconds to rack and your opponent can see if you cocked them... No 5-10k needs to come out of the added money....
I know some will hate and some will love it...
It is a significant change and I am very interested in how they figure out a way to make a ball consistently with the 9 on the spot and the 18" Break box.... If it works as well as it has the ability to you make see the same format in a few more events.......
