To avoid confusion,

CSI will be adding the full amounts of added money regardless of the field size.

$5,000 added to the one pocket
$10,000 added to the Straight Pool

Both events are limited to 48 players. It seems the fields will not fill. That is unfortunate for the players because we do these events to support the players and the game. Our events are run in an ethical and professional manner; there are no favorites, no seeding, and no sponsoring of any players. But without support of the players, it becomes difficult to put forth the efforts - time will tell.

In the meantime, I wish everyone 'good shooting'.................

CSI staff will be on hand to do PPV streaming, and although small, the field has some quality talent - so there should be some good matches

If less than 48 players sign up (17 presently on the website),

a) Will the format change? Will the schedule change? Still 5 days?

b) What will the payouts be? Top 25% paid? Based on the 17, how many spots would be paid and how much?

Hopefully, more will sign up in the next few days, but if not, people who may be coming down to see the matches would probably like to know how to schedule it and players might like to know what they are playing for.

I would like to see Dennis's questions answered. I plan to drive 3 hours up from New Jersey to watch the straight pool. I would like to know the schedule.

14.1

Straight pool is round robin.
Until the field size is set, the schedule cannot be finalized. It will start on Wednesday (20th) and finish on Sunday.

A lot of players tend to enter late...I know I was like that when I was active.

I know Alex is going.....will love the one-pocket...
...but says he doesn't know much about straight pool....

So I told him to run them all in one pocket. :)

Alex P? He is one of the 17 that have already signed up for straight pool .

He is one of the 15 signed up for One Pocket

When I asked Johnny Archer a few weeks ago, he said he knew nothing about it and had other commitments.

I asked Darren if he had talked to any other players who might be signing up. He said no one knew about it.

Hope springs eternal, but sometimes you have to sort of plan a 5 day commitment or more if you are doing both events.

I'll be there over the weekend. I've talked to a number of 14.1 players who seemed genuinely unaware of the event. I hope that the field "plumps up."

Ralf Souquet won the last iteration at Roseland in 2000. That was the event in which Mike Sigel broke his stick in frustration playing the unheralded John Schmidt, I believe. Let's hope the fireworks are more artistic than histrionic this time around.

That was a great tournament in 2000, but they tried it again in 2007.

I don't know how many entered. Marop may have an idea because I think he was there. The winners and payout was as follows:

2007 results: U.S. Open 14.1 Straight Pool Championship

1. Rafael Martinez $2850
2. Gabe Owen $1850
3. Huidji See $1170
4. John Schmidt $800
5. Danny Harriman $575
6. Jason Miller $575

is there any information on what time things start up tomorrow?

For 14.1, what I heard from Mark Griffin on stream is that the player meeting is around 6 pm and the first round of matches will follow that, possibly around 6:30.

[One-pocket continues earlier in the day.]

Is it a free stream or is it PPV ?

Alex wins the A-side final...4-1 over Shane.

Shuff and Deuel playing at 2:00 pm

I'm not aware of any groups/brackets posted yet. Perhaps someone there will take some pics and post them.

In the only two streamed 14.1 matches today:

• Kiamco defeated Tetreault 125-78. The high run was 47 by Kiamco.

• Orcollo defeated Hohmann 125-21, with a high run of 57.

I don't remember Hohmann ever playing worse. He went to the table 5 times, with these results: miss, miss, run 9 and scratch, run 13 and miss, miss. The first 2 misses were tough shots, the last two were not.

A commentator said Pagulayan ran 125 and out while Orcollo and Hohmann were playing.

In case anyone is unaware of what the format is for this event now:

They have 20 players in 4 groups of 5 playing round robin (each player plays 4 matches). Three players from each group (12 players in total) will move on to the single-elimination stage. So I imagine the top player from each of the 4 groups will get a bye in the first round of a 16-player chart, and the other 8 will play to determine who else gets to the quarterfinals.

The round-robin matches are to 125 points. If I remember correctly (I'll check if it is mentioned tomorrow), the single-elimination rounds of 16, 8, and 4 are to 150 points and the finals are to 200 points.
